Professional Year 2015

BSBWOR401A -Establish effective workplace relationships

Final Assessment

Part 1
Find out your Myers-Briggs Personality Type by using the test available at:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp
Write up what your personality style is, and the main characteristics of people with your
personality style. You can use the information provided about your style when the test is complete
– but please paraphrase it (write it in your own words).

ENFP. Extraversion over Introversion, Intuition over Sensing, Feeling over Thinking, Perceiving
over Judging

One of your colleagues, Faye, has an MBTI Personality Style of INFJ (Introverted iNtuitive
Feeling Judging). She is quite an “intense” person, who is often very suspicious of the motives of
the people she works with. Research (on the web) how your personality style, and that of Faye,
would interact, and write a short text (no more than 250 words) about this, and summarise whether
your personalities would “clash” or “complement” each other.
My personality style is ENFP, I believe that it will raise positive effect when it encounters Faye's
INFJ style since I am emotional and good at helping others. Also, his INFJ style would be good
influence on me as it will help me think more before acting. Thus, it would be complement each
other.

Part 2
Assess your Emotional Quotient using the short test available at:
http://www.ihhp.com/free-eq-quiz/
Record the information given at the conclusion of the test.
Ask another student or close friend, who knows you well and has ideally worked with you before,
to repeat the test, but not for themselves!! Ask them to complete it the way that they think you are.
It is important that they do this on their own, without any help from you!! So, for example, in
question 1 – I do not become defensive when criticized – you may have put “agree”, whereas their
observation of you is that you do become defensive, so they put “disagree”!

At the end of the test, record the information about your EQ as observed by someone else.
Provide both sets of results and information from the website in your report. Then write a brief (no
more than 250 words) analysis of why the results are different. Summarise your analysis by stating
whether you or your observer is more accurate about your EI skills.
It is absolutely vital that you are truthful in your answers, and allow the observer to answer
truthfully “how they see you”!
Finally say whether this could be a useful exercise in the workplace, and why.
Results from website:
Good EQ

Congratulations! You have high emotional intelligence. This is good news! EQ counts
for twice as much as IQ and technical skills combined in deter mining who will be a
star performer. Your level of EQ likely has been and will be a driver of your high
performance under pressure for years to come. Areas to work on: While you are doing
well, don’t forget to take time out of your busy day-to-day activities to stop and
reflect on what brings you the greatest meaning in your life. If we fail to do this on
a regular basis, we risk becoming tranquilized by the trivial; sedated by the small
details. Yes, deadlines need to be met and goals achieved. But if we a re working
toward goals that are not in alignment with our key values and greater purpose, we
face becoming frustrated and cynical when we face pressure – losing sight of the
reason we are doing ‘all of this’ in the first place!
As William James said: “I have no doubt whatsoever that most people live, whether
physically, intellectually, or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential
being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness… much
like a man who, out of his whole body organism, should get into the habit of using
and moving only his little finger… We all have reservoirs of life to draw upon, of
which we do not dream.”

My observer and I both agree the results.

It is useful exercise in the workplace as it would be beneficial that we could have a insight of
understanding of ourselves. It represents our ability to manage the work under pressure. Still we
are supposed to divide private and professional time as both has equal importance on one’s life
and puts great impacts on overall performance.
