Confirmation – Storage and Peeling

We herewith confirm that Georg Fischer PE fittings and valves are designed and produced to fully
comply with the requirements of the European standards.
EN 1555 Plastic piping systems for gas supply
EN 12201 Plastic piping systems for water supply

All processes are covered by the Georg Fischer management system which meets the standards
ISO9001 and ISO14001, certified by SQS.

1. Storage

Georg Fischer ELGEF Plus electro fusion fittings and spigot fittings are packed individually in a PE
bag (standard packing) and finally packed into a carton box.
If the fittings are stored in the original packing, protected from sunlight and are stored below 40° C, the
storage can extend to 10 years.
The storage time starts with the time of fitting production.

E-fusion parts have to be protected during their storage against UV influences.

This is ensured - also on a long-term basis - if the part up to its installation remains in the original
packaging, i.e. transparency bag and cardboard.

Storage alone in the transparency bag is not sufficient on a long-term basis. The UV rays harmful for
PE are held here only insufficiently.

Storage outside the card box should not exceed therefore 2 to 3 days.
The fitting may only be removed from the protective package immediately before the installation.

2. Peeling

When exposed to outdoors weathering the properties of polymers are subject to change. Primarily, the
effect is one of photo-oxidation brought about by incident wavelengths within the ultraviolet range,
although additional factors may contribute. This is a surface effect, and the bulk polymer is not
necessarily affected. Pigment fade and oxygen may also be a consideration.

There are basically two reasons why pipes have to be peeled in preparation of electro fusion welding
and injection moulded fittings don't.

1. Production: The polymer is most sensitive to oxidation as long as in molten state. In extrusion
process the melt comes out of the dye and in direct contact with the surrounding air and builds up and
oxygen layer.
The fitting on the other hand cools down in the closed mould so the surface does not come into
contact with oxygen in the same way until cooled down.

2. Storage: The fittings are normally packed into plastic bags and additional carton boxes, so the air
circulation is limited to a minimum and no reactive environment occurs.
The pipe is stored often without protection always being in direct contact to the surrounding air,
climate, dust/dirt and sunlight.

We confirm that injection moulded Georg Fischer Wavin Fittings are packed directly into a plastic
protection bag after production. Injection moulded fitting that arrive on site in original packaging do not
have to be peeled.

Attention: The fitting may only be removed from the protective package immediately before the
installation.

This confirmation is in line with the DVS technical code on plastic jointing technologies DVS 2207-1
clause 5.3 Preparation of welding.

If the injection moulded spigot products are however peeled, this will have no negative affect on the
result of the fusion presuming that this work is carried out correctly.

Segment-welded and bend spigot fitting produced from seamless pipe has to be treated as pipe.

Manufacturers or applicants may only quote in their sales literature terms which are used in this letter, namely that; ‘the material
as listed, having passed the tests of effect on water quality, is suitable for use in contact with wholesome water’

This may be abbreviated to ‘Water Regulations Advisory Scheme - Approved Material’ or ‘WRAS Approved Material’.

The scope of an Approval does not extend to rebranded materials unless otherwise agreed by the Scheme.

Use of the WRAS Approved Material Logo

Approval holders may use the WRAS Approved Material logo and make reference to any approval issued by WRAS Ltd. in
respect of a particular material or range of materials provided the approval is, and remains valid.

Approval holders are entitled to use the logo on the packing, promotional literature and point of sale advertising Approved
Materials.

Modifications to existing Approvals

It is a condition of WRAS Material Approval that NO changes or modifications to the Approved Material, be made without the
Approval Holder first notifying WRAS Ltd. Full details of the proposed changes must be provided to the Scheme. Failure to
comply with this condition will immediately invalidate a previously granted Approval.

Re-Approval

WRAS will write to you 1 year before the approval expires asking whether you would like to renew it. Please complete the
relevant section of the MA3 application form which will be included with the letter and return to WRAS (via e-mail or post).

Please note it is the responsibility of the Approval Holder to ensure the Approval remains valid. WRAS Ltd. accepts no liability for
the delay in granting approval where this is caused by circumstances outside of the Scheme’s control.
