More than thousands of articles have been conducted concerning the decision making of an

individual when it comes to their preferences in their college course. Inspiring speeches made its

way through every student’s ears. Even the personal advices of a family member or closest peer

have been heard. Yet it still does not give concrete evidences to which it concerns when it comes

to the reasons and justifications why they choose the current path they are taking. Gathering data

is a challenging task for a researcher for it demands to be carefully examined before it can be

used into a supporting detail to the conducted study. As we collect information by information,

we analyze and learn something new. Our background knowledge sharpens and we became more

curious. Career choice has become a complex task among students in the face of ever changing

technology and the information sector. Career choice is affected by multiple factors include

personality, interest, self-concept, identity, globalization, socialization, role model, social support

and available resources such as information and finance (Kerka 2000). Onayase and Onayase,

(2009) also carried out an investigation into other factors that could affect career choice, thus,

identified religion, peer group and some environmental factors. Student's perception of being

suitable for a particular job also has been found to be affected by a number of factors. For

instance, Parental support and encouragement are important factors that have been found to

affect career choice. Children may choose what their parents desire simply to please them. John

Krumboltz’s Social Learning Theory, developed in 1979, emphasizes the importance of

behaviour (actions) and cognition (knowing and thinking). Krumboltz identified four factors that

play important role in the selection of a specific career: genetic endowment, environmental

conditions, learning experiences and task approach skills (Beal, 1998:297; Ireh, 2000:36).

According to the Social Learning Theory, genetic endowment refers to those aspects of the

individual that are inherited or innate rather than learned. This may set limits on individual career
opportunities. This may set breaking points on singular vocation openings. Environmental

conditions are those conditions that are commonly outside the control of the individual and

impact aptitudes improvement and profession inclinations. According to Krumboltz, learning

experiences include One’s career performances as a result of prior learning experiences;

Individuals’ prior learning experiences that eventually influence their career decisions; and that

individuals’ prior learning experiences have a direct effect on their career choices. According to

Sharf (1997:330), individuals may make observations about themselves and their environment

that they will then use to make career decisions. Observations about the self-include capabilities,

interests and work values (Ireh, 2000:36). Krumboltz emphasized task approach skills such as

goal setting, values clarification, generating alternatives and obtaining occupational information

in career decision making. There is a need for understudies to be careful with natural factors that

could meddle with their vocation decisions. That guardians and educators ought to get

understudies ready for vocation awareness at early age. Parents should work intimately with their

children in career decision making process, permitting understudies to choose from their interest

area. School counseling ought to have the option to instruct the students to know about different

natural factors that is may be affecting their vocation decision, ought to advice teachers and

parents on how to prepare students at an earlier stage by choosing the right career and ought to

have the option to counsel the students not to be compelled to choose profession by their parents

and teachers yet be guided on the vocation way they wish to seek after. Having a job right after

graduating in college is what students commonly first consider. In this case, there is a greater

chance that they would be choosing courses with the quickest job opportunity even without the

consideration of several consequences it can result in. For the reason that students seek for an on-

hand occupation, they would probably be ending in the wrong path. In her study, "popular
courses" has also been discussed. It has been proven that students prefer Engineering, Medical-

related majors, and Accounting more than Agriculture. Those who decided to pursue agricultural-

related courses are those who experience agricultural activities hand in hand. This shows that it is

in Filipino's blood to attain more on professional jobs than the on-hand ones (Pascuala, 2016). As

the culture and traditions people are currently living, they are not aware that they have already

created distinctions for one another. There are certain occupations for men that women cannot

work on to as women to men too. Now, we are wondering if the gender of an individual really

affects the college major they pick. And it has been proved that there is no single impact the

gender is among students. Male and female do both have their own will to decide for their career

and are not affected by any expectations from the society (Mtemeri, 2017). Exploring

furthermore, personal factors has been explained thoroughly in that the highest factor students

consider is their personal preferences such as learning motivating, learning attitude, and self-

efficacy. Family-related factor is the second highest. While peer influence and school's

expectation has the lowest one. There are also students whom the study proves that they are

exploring the careers they chose (Ming-Shang Su, 2016). In Wei-Chun Vanessa Lee's "Choosing

a college major: Factors that might influence the way students make decisions" study, she has

been extensively exploring the connection of self-esteem to the decisions of individuals

regarding their career. It has been concluded that those students who are rated with "high self-

esteem" have a less likely to procrastinate. (Lee, 2009) Having a great confidence and

satisfaction of owns ability affects the side of that individual about being late to things or even

delaying things that can be done at the moment. It is more because of the reason that they are

more vibrant and inspired to the things they are doing compared to those individuals that are
rated as low self-esteem. With this various helpful information, we can use this to have a various

point of views and angles.
