ADNOC Distribution - Gas Specifications Clause Reference


1. When customer meter is at boundary wall then downstream piping to villa 4.3 – Residential –
shall be as follows: Villas & Palaces
a. Below ground – PEX pipe
b. Above ground
i. PEX pipe shrouded in GRP
ii. CS Pipe
c. Maximum operating pressure within the building is 21 mbar
d. Isolation valve – should be inside the building and as close as practicable
and with-in 2 meter of the point of entry of pipework into the building.
e. Pressure loss shall be calculated as per ….
2. When external installation pressure increases above 21 mbar pressure 4.4.5 Pressure
regulator shall be installed prior to or immediately after pipework entry into Regulation, Isolation

a. Number of Restaurants in Future Malls will be assessed on the basis of
0.21 Restaurants per 1000m2of GFA. This is based on the evidence of a
number of typical Malls in the Emirate.
b. Restaurant Diversity Factors: -
i. Restaurants and Mall Restaurants are treated as separate market
sectors within the same District. Factors taken from IGE/GL/1
ii. 1-5 restaurants Diversity Factor 1.0
iii. 5-10 restaurants Diversity Factor 0.8
iv. 10-15 restaurants Diversity Factor 0.75

c. CNG utilization time dependent on numbers and sizes of fleets, increasing
with time.

11. Velocity should be limited to 20m/s for unfiltered gas and 40m/s for filtered 4.13.1
gas as per IGEM/UP/2
12. PEX pipe may be utilized for external piping in multi-unit building no more 4.14
than 20 meters
13. PEX pipe risers or droppers shall not be used for high rise buildings (20m and 4.13.1
above)
14. Pipework assembly must be secured to the building wall with suitable pipe 4.14.2
clips at intervals not exceeding 2 meters
15. In instances where kitchens are on an outside wall of the building, the riser 4.14.3
may incorporate riser tees and house entry fittings.
16. Pipe clips will be installed at intervals not exceeding 2 meters. 4.14.5
17. Test pressure will be 1.5 x MOP. Testing will be in accordance with IGE/UP/1 4.15
or 1A
18. Pipe fabrication / installation notes
19. Copper pipe will be secured to permanent walls & supported at regular 4.16.3
intervals using standoff clips. Table 2 describes copper pipe support spacing
for various pipe diameters

20. CS pipes <= 50 mm diameter may be screwed or welded for MOP not 4.17.2
exceeding 21 mbar. Pipes for MOP not above 21 mbar shall be fully welded.
21. CS pips shall be used for above ground piping. 4.17.1
22. Horizontal and vertical support spacing is described in Table 4 4.17.3
23. Small commercial buildings (Typical flows up to 50 m3/hr) 4.5 / 7.3.1 – Small
a. All above ground piping to and within small commercial promises will be Commercial Premises
designed to comply with BS6891 or IGE/UP/2 and where appropriate
IGE/UP/11
b. Materials – High Grade CS, PEX or Copper in accordance with ADNGD-
SSP-574-8
c. Delivery pressure will be 75 mbar or 21 mbar
d. Pressure loss between meter outlet and any appliance
i. 7.5 mbar for 75 mbar services
ii. 1 mbar for 21 mbar services
e. Diversity is not applicable in these buildings.
f. Meter installation – as close as possible to the pipe entry point of
building.
g. Equivalent lengths of valves and fittings will be added to the pipe length
for pressure loss calculations.
h. Pipework in small commercial should be carbon steel.
i. Pipe bending is not permitted, fitting should be used.
24. Medium / Large Commercial Premises 4.6 / 8.1.1 – Large
a. Typical flows > 50 m3/hr. Commercial and
b. All above ground and internal pipework should be welded steel Industrial Premises
c. Regulator should have OPSO and UPSO capabilities
d. Pressure loss calculations shall be as per IGEM/UP/2
e. Isolation valve should be installed for each branch
f. Design of below group pipework downstream of meter set shall be as
per IGE/UP/2 and IGE/TD/4
g. Design above ground pipework downstream of meter set shall be as per
IGE/UP/2
h. Delivery pressures are 21, 75, 350 mbar and may reach 1 bar above 1 bar
approval of Engineer is required
i. Pressure loss up to 10% of design delivery pressure for pressures <= 1
bar
25. Below group piping material 8.2 – Large
a. PE100, PEX or coated steel (ADNGD-SSP-586-1 and 586-2) Commercial and
b. Velocity <= 20 m/s Industrial Premises
c. Below ground outlet piping will terminate at building wall
approximately 1 meter above the finish grade.
26. Below ground pipework installations
a. Suitable steel to PE transition fittings will be installed
b. In accordance with IGE/UP/2 or IGE/TD/4.
c. Pipe must not pass under any load bearing footings / foundations.
d. Marker tape will be placed 200 mm above the pipe along its entire
length below ground.
e. Minimum clearances

i. 400 mm – Gas pipes and electrical cables


ii. 250 mm – Gas pipes and other utilities
f. Where these minimum clearances cannot be maintained protective
plates should be installed between the gas pipe and the utilities in
question.
27. Above Ground Pipework (Installation Piping) 8.3 – Large
a. In accordance with IGE/UP/2 Commercial and
b. Pipe <= 25 mm diameter, may be screwed or welded Industrial Premises
c. Pipes between 26 and 50mm diameter and operating at pressures < 2
bar may be screwed or welded.
d. Pipe greater than 26mm in diameter and operating at pressures
between 2 and 4 bar must be welded.
e. Steel pipe material – BS 1387, BS 3601, API 5L or equivalent
f. Purge points provision
i. End of pipe run
ii. Either side of isolations
iii. Can be used for pressure testing at the downstream of isolation
valves
g. Consideration for routing of pipework
i. Safety, ease of installation, least quantity of pipe, clear access
maintenance, aesthetics, obstructions and any potential hazards,
and adjacent electrical apparatus.
h. ECV shall be as close as possible to the point of entry into the building.
i. Pipework at high levels
i. Hanger / suitable bracket supports at regular intervals
j. Pipe works in ducts should be avoided
k. Branch isolation valve shall be accessible where pipe enters a self-
contained space, in accordance with IGE/UP/2.

Primary Meters

These relate only to the type (diaphragm, electronic; rotary displacement, etc.) and to the maximum
capacity of the meter. For any capacity not exceeding 6 m3/h, the relevant installation standard is BS
6400-1. For greater capacities up to 16 m3/h, the relevant installation standard is either IGEM/GM/6
Edition 2 or

IGE/GM/8.
