Advocating Proper Hand Washing

B. Project Goals/Objectives

- Give the youth an idea about proper hand washing

- Discuss the great health benefits that one can get from properly washing your hands

-Teach them the proper way of washing your hands

C. Rationale

Bacteria is everywhere. There are bacteria inside the human body, too. Some of them are

good and they need to function properly, but the others can create havoc. If they take over the

immune system, one may become ill. The most common place in homes or workplace where

bacteria are most likely to have spread is the bathroom. For obvious reasons, bathrooms are

thriving places for bacteria to fester until they can be carried and transferred to other objects by

contact.

The bacteria eventually gets on mobile phones, clothes, door knobs and into the body.

This is why it is important to properly wash the hands since that is the first line of defense against

the bacterial contagion. There are troubling statistics that indicate a large percentage of credit

cards and mobile phones have tested positive for traces of fecal waste on them. A study
conducted by the Harvard Medical School gives the expression ‘dirty money’ and entirely new

twist. Namely, it showed that 94% of the dollar bills currently in circulation also tested positive

for having traces of fecal waste on them.

For a healthy person with strong immunity, these facts are not a cause for much worry.

Unfortunately, not everybody has a strong immune system. What about the children who are

just building up their immune systems and the more susceptible elderly citizens; not to mention

those who are managing diseases like HIV and Hepatitis? Even the current hot topic about the

nCoV (Novel Corona Virus) can infect people who have weak immune system. These people have

weakened immune systems and are always at risk of contracting harmful bacteria if they live in

dirty environments.

So, in addition to advocating for the regular washing of hands, it is also important to note

that for our hands to be actually free from germs, they have to be washed the right way.

D. Project Description

The “Advocating Proper Hand Washing Project” advocates what it says in the name:

proper hand washing. A short yet informative discussion about the benefits one can get by

properly washing their hands. The sessions will be also child-friendly because its primary goal is

to enlighten the youth. The advocator will also show a step by step process so that it can be easily

learned and followed by the viewers.

People of all ages.

F. Target Schedule of Activities

Session 1

Conduct a lecture about what proper hand washing is and the benefits that you can get from it.

Session 2

Show an informative step by step process of proper hand washing to the audience.

Session 3

Enact the said process in front of the audience and let them follow your lead.
