Design lines in printed fabrics that are meant to be sharp

Fuzzy Pattern demarcations of color but that are muted or
blurred.
A change of shade in dyed fabric caused by the chemical
reaction of certain disperse dyes with atmospheric
contaminants such as burnt gas fumes and ozone.
Fume Fading
A change of fabric color caused by localized abrasive
wear, such as that occurring at collar points or garment
creases.
Frosting
The loss of color brilliance through exposure to factors
Fading such as sunlight or cleaning agents.
The transference of color from one fabric to another by
Crocking rubbing.
Color is discharged into a liquid medium and transfers to
another fabric.
Color
Bleeding
A horizontal off-shade band across the fabric. Usually
found in knit fabrics, the problem is caused by a defect in
the yarn, uneven tension in knitting, or other factors that
produce a color band when the fabric is dyed.

5 Dyeing and Printing Problems
Common Causes of Dyeing Defects

Common Causes of Dyeing Defects:

It is important that the general precautions should be followed while dyeing a textile
material. It is always helpful to keep a record of all the conditions (including
temperature, time, conc of color, chemicals, material to liquor ratio) in order to get an
even shade in each batch. In general the following are the common causes of dyeing
defects across all the categories of dyes:

1. The material is not well prepared for dyeing and printing

a. Material having dead fibres or other defective fibres

b. Left over of Chemicals after bleaching etc.
c. Material not properly desized
d. Material not properly mercerised.
e. Absorbancy of the fabric not proper
f. Sticking of insoluble material on the fibres
g. Impurities are not removed properly
h. Uneven heat treatment.

2.Water Quality not Proper

a. More Hardness of water

b. Water has metal ions such as iron.
c. pH of water not proper
d. Water having more chlorine

3. Due to Shortcomings in making Dyeing Solution

a. Improper weight ratio of colors, material and chemicals.

b. Improper material to water ratio
3. Improper filtering of concentrated colors.

4. Due to Shortcomings in the dye machinery

a. Coming out of Dye liquor during dyeing

b. Defective instruments controlling temperature, pressure speed etc.
Colour Drag- Colour of the print smears or smudges from rubbing
against an object before it becomes dry. Colour Splatter-The print
paste instead of being placed on the fabric is thrown or splattered
onto the fabric surface. Fuzzy Pattern - The edges of patterns are
not sharp, clear lines, but are instead rather fuzzy lines. Most
frequently caused by improper singeing or improperly thickened print
paste.
Off-register- Printing rolls or screens improperly aligned so pattern
parts do not meet properly. This imperfection is also called out-of-
fit or out-ofregister. Stop Mark- Colour streak across the fabric
resulting from the printing machine being stopped during the printing
process and then starting again. Tender Spots- In printed fabrics,
one or more colours of the print may cause weakened areas where they
were printed. Usually due to excessive use of injurious chemicals in
the print paste. May also be found in the discharged area of
discharge prints.
