Introduction

Overcrowding in classrooms has been a popular topic. It is not only a problem for a teacher but also for
students. Government and related institutions of education have no proper check and balance.
Especially government schools are overcrowded because of increase in population and due to financial
issues or income constraints of people and they send their children to government schools because they
cannot afford private schools due to their high feeses. Thats why majority of population enroll their
students to government schools. On the other side government schools are not enough to fulfill their
requirements that leads to the problems of overcrowding in classrooms. especially if we talk about at
primary level each class consist on above 70 students and this is worse condition for a teacher. With the
passage of time this problem is increasing due to this overcrowding teachers and students both face lot
of problems. Teachers cannot pay attention to their students as they should be. In this situation
teachers cannot deal with students one by one. Large class size tackle by single teacher makes both
teacher and students uncomfortable. Overcrowding leads to decrease their achievement level. Small
size classrooms establish bonding and relationship in teacher and student. Students feel comfortable
and share their problems regarding their studies or any other issue with their teachers. In early grades
students or children wants more attention from their parents and their teachers because they spend
most of the time in schools they close more with their teachers as compare to their parents. Class size
and achievements levels of students are correlate with each other. Classrooms are considered to be
heart of any education system. Overcrowded classrooms are part of education system of Pakistan and
have long term impacts on both student and on economy. That’s why all teachers training programs are
conducted that will capable teachers to tackle any critical problem. It’s a difficult task for teachers to
enhance the confidence level and their learning ability at a large level. They cannot give attention to
learners as they deserve just because of environment. Overcrowded classes not only raises general
problems like quality of education, unhealthy environment, lack of place but also raises psychological
issues both for student and teachers. Education is considered to be backbone especially at primary
levels for achieving good environment. The expectations of this research that what we obtain
information regarding overcrowded classes at primary level will help to concern departments to take
possible measures to overcome this issue. Findings of my study will help policy makers and government
to make such policies that strictly follow this issue and make an effective road map to overcome this
problem. They will also realize that proper learning is not doing at its level and this is raising the issue of
unhealthy environment. Lot of studies have been done in this regard. This study is attempt to examine
the problems of overcroeding classrooms at primary levels. So I decided to deal this problem in a
different way and try to find out the problems faced by teachers and students. We mostly said that
teachers are not doing their work at their level but we never focus on the issue that it may be due to
they attend the students beyond their capacity. Class exceeds beyond 80 or may be above how a single
person can control this. Private schools are going towards their development level and achieving their
goals because they have limited students to each teacher.so this issue has a lot of importance and
especially at primary level nobody can deny that children require lot of attention and in some cases they
are more close to their teachers as compare to their parents. This is just possible in those classes have
limited students. Overcrowding has gain lot of attention especially at primary level teachers believe that
it has negative impact on the society and create lot of negative factors. In classes filled with students are
mostly busy in gossips with their friends or they may be active in some kind of bad activities.
Overcrowding motivates students in discipline problems. This study include the problems of
overcrowded classes at primary level and suggest some possible measures to overcome these problems.

To examine the problems of overcrowded classes at primary levels and their impacts on students
performance.
