- During pre-Spanish times, Manila was called Maynilad from the word Nilad, a flowering shrub growing abudantly anong
the banks of the Pasig River
- From the 16th to the 19th centuries, Manila was Intramuros
- With the birth of the Philippine Republic on July 4, 1946, Manila became the premier City of Manila
- Congressional districts - 6 (District 1-Tondo I; District 2-Tondo II; District 3-Sta. Cruz, Binondo, San Nicolas, Quiapo;
District 4-Sampaloc; District 5-Intramuros, Ermita, Malate, Paco; District 6-Pandacan, San Miguel, Sta. Ana, Sta. Mesa)
- Land area - 38.28 sq.km
- Barangays - 896
- Location - West coast of the Philippine main island of Luzon. It straddles at the delta of the Pasig River, a short
navigable stream that connects the fresh water lake of Laguna de Bay with Manila Bay and the South China Sea
