• Introduction

IMPhO (Indonesian Medical Physiology Olympiad) is the first, the one and only medical
physiology competition in Indonesia, held by Physiology Department and Badan Eksekutif
Mahasiswa Keluarga Mahasiswa Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. IMPhO has been
held since 2017 and consists of 3 main activities: Medical Physiology Quiz, City Tour, and Gala
Dinner. The competition will be on comprehension on Physiology which is a basic science in
medicine. In 2020, IMPhO will be held on April 17th until 19th, 2020, in Faculty of Medicine
Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.

• Terms and Conditions


1. Applicants are medical students from Faculty of Medicine in Indonesia.
2. Each university may send maximum 2 teams, and each team consists of 3 persons.
3. Applicants who have joined previous IMPhO and IMSPQ are not allowed to apply for
IMPhO 2020.
4. The quota for applicants in IMPhO 2020 is 56 teams.

 Registration
1. Registration schedule
Early registration : January 13th 2020 – January 31st 2020
Late registration : February 1st – February 29th 2020
2. Registration fee
Early registration : Rp 3.150.000,00 / team
Late registration : Rp 3.450.000,00 / team
Lecturer (if any) : Rp 600.000,00 / lecturer

3. The participant’s registration fee is included following facilities:


a. 2-nights accommodation in the hotel
b. Transportation from the airport/station/bus station to the hotel (and vice
versa); and from the hotel to the venue (and vice versa)
c. 6x Meals and 3x Snacks
d. Gala Dinner
e. Applicants kit including ID Card, tote bag, notes, pen, pencil, eraser, folder, and
certificate
f. Official IMPhO 2020 T-Shirt
g. And various activities/ performances
4. The accompanying lecture’s registration fee is included following facilities:
a. Transportation from the airport/station/bus station to the hotel (and vice
versa); and from the hotel to the venue (and vice versa)
b. 4x Meals and 3x Snacks (breakfast is provided by the accommodation of each
lecture)
c. Gala Dinner
d. Applicants kit including ID Card, tote bag, notes, pen, pencil, eraser, folder, and
certificate
e. Official IMPhO 2020 T-Shirt
f. And various activities/ performances
5. IMPhO 2020 Committee does not provide hotel accommodation for lecturers
6. After paying the registration fee, applicants are required to fill the registration form
(Available on: http://bit.ly/IMPhO2020Registration) (1 form for each team) and submit
the documents required as follows:
a. Scan of proof of registration payment
b. Scan of proof of lecturer’s registration payment (if any)
c. Applicants’ university logo in .png format
d. Scan of applicants’ student card
e. Team photo
*all files have a maximum size of 100MB
7. After filling the registration form, applicants have to confirm to Aurilia Afia via LINE
Messenger (auriliafia) or WhatsApp Messenger (087871799239) by the format of
IMPhO2020_University Name_Captain Full Name
8. After the applicants confirm the documents, participants will be directed to fill out a Travel
Plan that we provided, which contains about:
a. Date – Time and Place of Arrival and Departure (Hotel Check – in: Friday,
April 17th 2020 at 14.00 WIB ; Hotel Check – out: Sunday, April 19th 2020 at
12.00 WIB)
b. The number accompanying lectures and the details of lecture’s accommodation
Applicants must submit the travel plan before March 28th, 2020.
9. Applicants have to bring these documents to re-registration during IMPhO 2020:
a. Profile photo of each applicant in 3x4 size
b. Letter of Recommendation from applicants’ faculty or university
c. Photocopy of student card
10. The registration payment cannot be refunded.
11. If applicants want to change their team’s composition, applicants should contact David
Setyo Budi via LINE Messenger (davidsb99) or WhatsApp Messenger (085655787776)
before 3rd April 2020, and submit the documents as follow:
a. Scan of new applicants’ student card
b. New team photo
12. IMPhO 2020 committee has the authority to disqualify the following applicants:
a. Applicants who register with falsified information or documents
b. Applicants who do not fulfil the registration fee
c. Applicants who are not fulfilling the terms and conditions for registration.
13. The registration will be closed prior to the deadline if maximum capacity is reached.
14. Applicants have to finish the registration prior to the competition.
15. Any further necessity required for re-registration will be announced later.
• House Rules
IMPhO 2020 consists of 1 written (preliminary) round and 3 oral rounds (quarterfinal,
semifinal and final round). Written round will be held on April 18th 2020 and oral rounds will
be held on April 19th 2020.
o Written Round
 General rules
1. Participants should switch off and silence their electronic devices.
2. Respective electronic devices must be put inside the bag during test.
3. All participants must sit on the chair according to their registration
number.
4. Participants could only bring nametag to the test. Required stationaries
would be provided by the committee.
5. Each participant would be given a computer answer sheet, a set of
stationary, and question sheets.
6. Participant must fill their identities and registration number on the
computer answer sheet correctly with 2B pencil.
7. Any questions regarding filling the answer sheet could be asked to the
nearest supervisors by raising one’s hand.
8. Participants are allowed to check the question sheets at the provided
time.
9. Participants could begin to fill the answer after the time has started.
10. Any late participants are only allowed to take the test without time
extension after granting permissions from supervisors.
11. Participants are prohibited to leave the test area before time runs out,
even if they have already finished filling the answer sheet.
12. Participants must stop filling the answer sheet after time runs out.

 Preliminary round
All participant of all teams must participate the written test individually. The
written test itself composed of 100 true/false questions on physiology of
various human body systems. Duration for written test is 60 minutes. A
correct answer will earn 1 point; no answer will earn 0 point; and incorrect
answer will be penalized 1 point. Final point is mean of accumulated point
whole team members. Top 16 teams will proceed to quarterfinal round

o Oral Rounds
 General rules
1. Participant should switch off the cell phone or into silent mode and, it is
not allowed to take photos and record a video during the quiz is in
session.
2. Audiences should refrain from whispering or prompting when the
participants are responding to the questions.
3. Audiences should neither nor cheering until the end of the final round.
4. Under unexpected conditions, committee has rights to change the rules
of Oral Quiz session
 Quarterfinal
1. 16 teams from the Written Quiz will be divided into 4 phases with 4 teams
each phase
2. In each phase, all member from 4 University Teams will be on stage. Team
discussion is allowed in this round.
3. All team will be asked same question and will be given 20 seconds to
respond in WRITING on a white board to each question asked. A correct
answer is awarded 3 marks while incorrect answer will NOT be
penalized.
4. The Highest score of each group will progress to the Semi-final Round.
The 2 teams with highest score of all phase (not include, the best team of
each group) will progress to Semi-final Round. In total, 6 teams will
proceed into Semi-final Round. In the event of tie, the marks of written
test will be used to decide which team proceeds to Semi-final Round.

 Semifinal
1. The Semi-final Round comprise of two phases of 3 University Teams each.
In each phase, there will be 6 questions. Team discussion is allowed in
this round.
2. In this round, each team is given 2 adrenaline injections, one with 2x
point multiplier and one with 3x point multiplier. One adrenaline
injection can only be used once.
3. The clue of question will be given before each question, then all team is
allowed to decide to use adrenaline injection or not for 10 seconds. All
team will be asked same question and will be given 20 seconds to
respond in WRITING on a white board to each question asked.
4. A correct answer will earn 10 points with no penalty for a wrong answer.
Question answered correctly using adrenaline injection will be multiplied
as the multiplier in adrenaline injection used (two or three times).
5. The Highest score of each group will progress to the Grand-final Round.
One team with highest score in Semi-final Round (not include, the best
team of each group) will progress to Grand-final Round. In total, 3 teams
will proceed into Grand-final Round. In the event of tie, the marks of
written test will be used to decide which team proceeds to Grand-final
Round.

 Final
1. The Grand-final Round comprise of 3 cycles, where in each cycle
composed of 2 questions. One member of each team competing
University will step forward to answer question. Team discussion is NOT
allowed in this round.
2. Question will be directed to 1st student from all team where the question
will be read twice and the student given 15 second to respond by pressing
the buzzer and answer ORALLY after allowed by the Quiz-Master. A
correct answer will earn 3 points with 1 point penalty for a wrong
answer.
3. If the answer is wrong, the question is open for other teams by pressing
the buzzer only after the Master Quiz has announced “The answer is
Wrong”. Premature buzzer will be penalized 1 mark. The team press the
buzzer faster can answer the question. A correct 2nd response will be
earned 2 points and Incorrect answer will be penalized 1 mark.
4. If there is no response from all team in given time, the next question will
be asked.
5. Following question will be directed to 2nd and 3rd students respectively.
After the first cycle, the next 3 students will compete, then the third cycle
of students will compete.
6. Team with highest score in this round will be the 1st winner of Indonesian
Medical Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO) 2020 followed by 2nd and 3rd
winner. In the event of tie, the marks of written test will be used to decide
which team is the winner.

• Rewards
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winner of Indonesian Medical Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO) 2020
will be rewarded certificate, trophy (only for 1st winner), medals, and prize money.
The contestants with the 1st to 10th highest score in written test of Indonesian Medical
Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO) 2020 will be rewarded certificate and prize money.
