Rainy season is the favorite season for many people as it comes after the very

hot summer. It brings new life and hope to the human and living things who suffered

from the heat of summer sun. The rainy days give more relief due to its natural and cool

rainwater. All the rivers, lakes and streams become full of water that were dried because

of the heat. Therefore, it gives new life to the water animals. It returns greenery to the

gardens and lawns back. It gives environment a new attractive look. However, it is so

sad that it stays only for three months. Rainy days may be good for some people but

also it may be bad for some others. In fact, it depends on who you are, where you live

and how your life is. We will check some English and Arabic hashtag on TWITTER that

reflect common concept between our own culture and the western culture.

In the "rainy days" hashtag, one can find that it carries a common concept

between the Arabic culture and the Western culture in all everyday life aspects, as the

tweets tell about it. Rainy days have an effect on people in many ways. There are many

topics presented on the rain day and ‫يوم ممطر‬hashtags that deal with clothes, work, daily

routine, mood, entertainment, memories, wishes, transportation, roads, discussions,

poetry, songs, sadness, happiness, hot drinks, emotions, calm ,Jokes….etc. In both

hashtags, many people are found to see that rainy days carry for them the good

memories and ideal situations. One of the tweeters on the Arabic hashtag says that his

first school trip was in winter and it was a rainy day that he could not forget. Another

one talks about her first day in the university and how good she felt. Many others tell

that the rainy day makes one feel calm and quiet as well as more enthusiastic to work.

On the other hand, many people in the English hashtag talks about how to entertain in
these days. They may listen to music and songs. Moreover, many others talk about how

the rainy days are better for work. Thus, there are many similarities among the Arabic

and English hashtag. The theme of entertainment can be one of these similarities.

Another theme that can be drawn from the tweets is the rainy mood. People in both

hashtags expresses good and bad moods in the rainy season. Some people in the Arabic

hashtag have tweets that demonstrate the happiness of people in the rainy days. They

can stay at home and have a hot drink. In addition, it is a good time for all the family

to gather and have some discussions. They go dancing under the rain and playing under

the water of the rains. In the English hashtag, many people talks about their romantic

mood when they remember their lovers or beloveds. Some others write poetry about

their lovers as well as drinking hot drinks. Moreover, both hashtags share that some

people see that rainy days carry bad memories for them. Some talk about their

loneliness and sadness, some talk about the sufferings of the homeless and the

difficulties of transportation.

Thus, we find some similarities between the Arabic and English tweets. They make a

combination between the music and rainy days. Moreover, they relax at home to get

warm. In addition, they are interested in having heavy clothes to endure the rainy days

and winter.

On the other hand, some differences appear between the Arabic and English

tweets about rainy days. In the Arabic tweets, there are more emotions and feelings, as

there are many words that contain (heart- beautiful –poetry- hug- songs- love- ….etc.).

In addition, there is a lack in rain in some Arabic countries. Therefore, many tweets

wish to have rain after some years of drought or pray for Allah to provide them with

rain. In the Arabic tweets, people highlight a big problem, which is transportation.

Many roads are not paved and this makes it very difficult to go or come. On the other
hand, the English tweets focus on how they entertain themselves and their kids at home,

and some of them have some adventures under the rain.

Self-reflection

I think rainy season is liked by everyone as I like it very much. It makes me feel slightly
cool and happy. After all it comes after a long period of summer season. People, especially
farmers, in India worship God Indra to rain for the wellness of this season crops. Rain-God
is the most important god for the farmers in India. Rainy season gives new life to everyone
on this earth like plants, trees, grasses, animals, birds, human being, etc. All the living
things enjoy the rainy season by getting wet into the rainwater. Rainy
days may have
goodness for some, but also may have badness for some that depends on
who you are, where you live and how your life is.

There are some similarities and difficulties between the Arabic and
Western concepts about rain. I see that they share the feelings of happiness,
love, and enthusiasm in these days. They both may stay at their homes to
get warm and have hot drinks. In addition, they feel more able to work.
They also share the I think this project unable me to know how we live,
how we think about our aspect of ,and which aspect we choose to see our
life and which one we ignore . and unable me to know more about the
western culture that help me to be multicultural and be better in my life.
