Dos and Don’ts of Duster

Dusting your home is a must, but people with allergies dread the dust and
allergens that end up in the air after they’ve taken a dusting wand to the
problem areas. Here are six do’s and don’ts to dusting with allergies –
and the best part of all? They’re easy to implement right away.

Don’t use a dry, fluffy duster. Not only is it ineffective to removing

dust from your home, it actually sends particles into the air and into your
lungs.

Do use a damp cloth, or a cloth with a dust-repellent cleaning

product to dust with.

Do wear a mask over your mouth and nose to reduce inhalation of

particles.

Don’t wait too long between dustings – quick wipe-downs every day
will stop the dust from building up and causing problems.

Do keep your footwear outside to keep the worst of the dirt out there
too.

Don’t keep your windows open at the height of allergy season. The
less pollen you let in your home, the less you’ll have to dust and the less
you’ll be sneezing.

Dusting Do’s and Don’ts

This season my allergies have been the absolute worst! I
was practically living on Zyrtec-D. I finally went off of
it about a week or two ago, and it’s been a bit better, but
It’s been a very hard begining of the summer. On Fourth
of July I tested the waters by going off of it for a day, and
boy was that a mistake. I was miserable the entire
day. One thing that can contribute to your allergies is the
amount of dust in your home. Dust is unavoidable but
there are some things we can do to make life a little more
bearable.
Change your AC filter. I think I mentioned before that I
was not aware that these needed to be changed on a
regular basis when I first moved into our house! We
almost destroyed our AC because we didn’t change it for
about a year!

Best Tools – First a dust cloth that is white and made of

cotton. It will trap dust and is washable. This is perfect
for those nooks and crannies that are missed by the….
Dusters, number two tool. These are really good for hard
to reach places and for skimming the tops of things like
the TV, computer, and shelves.

DO NOT USE – Paper towels and feather

dusters. These will just move dust around and back into
the air, and both can scratch delicate surfaces!

Work it top to bottom. This way you can catch any dust
you have released into the air on the way down.

The more you eliminate the dust in your home, it will

look cleaner, and you will be able to breathe
easier! Happy Dusting!
