Field Study 3

Technology in the Learning Environment

REFLECTION

Field Study 3 deals with the main role and the significance of instructional materials to

the teaching and learning process. Instructional materials/aids also called as teaching

aids is responsible for the ultimate completion of the whole teaching process. Teaching

would be very effective if appropriate, necessary and related instructional materials were

utilized. Such instructional resources must be carefully and correctly chosen to ensure

motivation and interest on the part of the learners. Certain guidelines and rules must be

followed and considered especially by the teacher when dealing with IM’s to ensure

proper construction, handling and utilization.

Our observation on Field Study 3 is focused on knowing how significant the role of the

instructional material is inside the classroom. The way how it is used as well how the

teacher and the learner interact with the IM’s were given great emphasis.

In the classroom where I conducted my observation, varied learning resources are

available suited for everyday usage. There were books, lesson hand-outs, and even ICT

resources. The teacher always found a way to present her lesson using technology like

Powerpoint presentations and projector. This was in support with the belief that learners

of today’s generation become uneasy and uncomfortable with the lesson being discussed
in front of them if the teacher is using traditional approaches and methodologies and only

becomes active and participative if they are able to see something new, something

moving rendered by graphical representations made possible by different useful

applications in the computer.

Aside from observing how well my cooperating teacher constructed meaningful and

related instructional materials and how the learners interacted with it, I also have gone

through assessing how effective an instructional material is when it comes to bridging the

desired learning and knowledge to the learners.

It is indeed true that using instructional materials in teaching- learning process is of

great help as this assures motivation and interest from the learner most especially if they

feel connected with the IM’s being presented to them. This must also pave way to a big

realization to teachers that this materials are only aid or help but not a total replacement

on his/her job and responsibility as a teacher. At the end of the day, the teacher is still the

best medium of instruction.
