Awareness The students will be asked with this question: How to determine whether the formulated
hypothesis is the answer or solution to the problem?
It must be tested.
How to test the hypothesis?
A hypothesis can be tested by an investigation or an experiment.
Activity With their teammates, the students will design an investigation to test their hypotheses on what
will happen to the five paper balls when they’re dropped at a certain height. After designing the
experiment, they have to perform it and note their observations.
(Refer to the rubrics below)
Analysis Pose these questions:
1. How did you design your experiment?
First, the materials should be gathered. Then, you will have to create a step-by-step procedure.
2. What should be identified in your experimental design?
The factors or variables should be identified like the materials used because they may possibly
interfere with the results of the experiment.
3. How many setup(s) are there in your experiment? Why?
There should be more than one setups in order to compare the results as well as to ease in the
replication of the experiment. With this, an accurate and a reliable answer or solution to the
problem can be drawn.
4. What should be considered in designing an experiment?
One must consider that in designing an experiment, it should be a “fair test”, thus it should be
done in a way that only one factor is changed at a time while keeping the other conditions the
same.

Abstraction 1. How would you describe an experiment?

An experiment is an ordered investigation which are intended to prove or disprove a hypothesis.
2. What would be the types of variables which are present in an experiment?
One is changed (independent), the rest are the same (constant) and the other one will be based on
the observation as a response to the factor being changed (dependent).
Application A fair test is an experiment wherein one condition (independent variable) affects another
(dependent variable) by keeping all other conditions constant. How does this apply to your life as
a student?
Assessment Directions: Identify the independent and dependent
1. Chocolate may cause pimples
Independent variable: __________________________________________________________
Dependent variable: ___________________________________________________________
2. Salt in soil may affect plant growth.
Independent variable: __________________________________________________________
Dependent variable: ___________________________________________________________
3. Bacterial growth may be affected by temperature.
Independent variable: __________________________
Dependent variable: _________________________
Assignment List down the variables present in the hypothesis which you have formulated pertaining to the
problem you proposed and make an experimental design which can be used to test the hypothesis.
