Learning How to Pray

The ‘shopping list’ prayer.

Give me this, give me that, give me everything in Jesus’ name. Amen. Is this the prayer
that God requires us to pray?
The ‘four’ elements of prayer.

A Adoration
C Confession
T Thanksgiving
S Supplication

Adoration (Praise)
This means praise. We begin our prayer by praising God for who he is. We can praise him for his character i.e.
a loving God, a holy God, merciful, just and full of compassion. (Psalms 103:1) Bless the lord oh my soul:
and all that is with in me bless his holy name.
Confession (Repent)
This is about saying sorry for when we have not lived as we should. If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1: 9) We need
to admit our sin to God who is able to forgive us and help us begin again.

Thanksgiving (Thank)
This is about saying thank you to God for what he’s done for us, and all that he continues to do in our lives.
Being thankful is showing the God of heaven that we have FAITH in his ability to answer our prayer. (I
Thessalonians 5: 18) In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you.
Supplication (Request)
This is an old word but it means ‘a humble request for help’. As we come to the end of our prayer, we can ask
God to help us in difficult situations or times of need. We can ask him to work in someone else’s life, or pray
for the big problems of the world. Remember nothing is too big or too difficult for God. (Philippians 4: 6) Be
careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication let your request be made
known to God.
Here I’ve incorporate the 4 elements to a prayer God desires.
Dear God, I praise you because you are a loving God.
Lord, I am sorry for all the wrongs that I have done and I repent for my sins.
Thank you God, for your many blessings and mercy bestowed upon me.
God, please grant me the desires of my heart.

And as we finish our prayer we say: In Jesus’ name. Amen.

But should we pray in Jesus name?
Let’s see what the bible have to say about that.
John 14:6 says “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through me.”
We must pray to God in Jesus’ name because this is the only way God
has approved for us to approach Him. Jesus also said in John 16:23.
“Most truly I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything he will give it to
you in my name.”
So as we close remember 1 Thessalonians 5: 16,17. Rejoice evermore. Pray
without ceasing.
Dear God, we praise you because you are a merciful God, you are the King of
kings and Lord of lords. We bless your name.
Lord, we repent for our sins and ask you to forgive us.
Thank you God, for your many blessings and mercies bestowed upon us.
Please bless everyone present here take charge of the rest of the proceedings
for today.
In Jesus’ Holy name. Amen.
