MW PH-I (3x33) + PH-II (3x33+1x8) capacity.
• Being constructed on River Ravi, 11 km
downstream of the existing Ranjit Sagar Dam
and 8 km upstream of Madhopur Headworks.
• It will provide a balancing reservoir to have
uniform water releases for UBDC Canal,
Kashmir canal off taking from Madhopur Head
Works and high level Ravi Canal (J&K) which
will off take from right side of this Project.
• It will ensure optimum power generation
during peaking hours from Ranjit Sagar Dam
Project.

BENEFITS

14
GENERATION BENEFITS
Cheaper Power of 1048 million units to be generated
annually from SKPP with 20% share to J&K

Quick availability of power & less synchronization time

Peak generation of RSD would increase from 275 MUs to

745 MUs with enhanced 20% share to J&K.

UBDC annual gen. would double due to regular water flow

from RSD resulting in financial benefit of Rs. 144 Cr. annually.

Power from SKPP would be cheaper than power

from thermal power plants, IPPs & Energy exchange
15
IRRIGATION & OTHER BENEFITS
It will enable INDIA to fully utilise the Ravi waters by
completely stopping the water flow to Pakistan.
Flood control in River Ravi
Benefit to J&K, Rajasthan, Punjab & Haryana on account of
agriculture production due to enhanced irrigation facility
Additional 1150 Cusecs water to J&K through Ravi
canal and irrigation benefits thereof.
J&K shall save Rs. 14 Cr. annually on a/c of charges being paid for
pumping arrangement as water will be available at lift stations through
kashmir canal with the commissioning of the project

Water from Madhopur headworks is also released in River Beas through

MB link canal which is further used for irrigation in Rajasthan & Punjab

Direct and indirect employment to local people of J&K and Punjab

during construction & after completion of the project. 16
