Mustaurid bin Shaddad (R.A.A) relates that the Prophet (S.A.W) said: “The
worth of this world compared with the Hereafter is, as if one puts his finger
in the ocean, and then examines as to how much water it brings when
taken out.” (Muslim)

Hazrat Jabir Bin Abdullah (R.A.A) relates that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W)
accompanied by his companions, was passing through the
Bazaar when he noticed a dead goat with cut ears lying there.
He caught it by its ear and asked: “Who would like to have it
for a Dirham?”
They said, “We do not like to have this thing in return for
anything; it is no use to us.”
He then asked, “Would any of you like to have it for free?”
They replied, “Had it been alive, even then it would have been
defective being cut-eared, and what use is it now when dead?”
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) then said, “By Allah! The world is
even more valueless in the sight of Allah, than this is in your
eyes.”

Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As, where he reported that the Messenger of Allah said:
"There will come a time upon the people when their hearts will be like the hearts of
the non-Arabs ('ajam)." He was asked: "And what are the hearts of the non-Arabs
like?" The Messenger of Allah replied: "Love of the dunya, making their lifestyle
that of the bedouins, devoting all of their acquired wealth to animals; they see Jihad
as a source of harm, and charity as a source of loss."

"In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit)
cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-

parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take
two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The

Umme Salamah narrates that she said toRasulull:lh "0 Rasullallah, are the
women of this world superior or the hurs?" He replied, "The women ofthis world
will have superiority over the hurs just as the outer lining of a garment has
superiority over the inner lining." Umme Salamah then asked, "0 RasUlullah,
what is the reason for this?" He answered, "Because they performed salah,
fasted, and worshipped [Allah]. Allah will put light on their faces and silk on their
bodies. [The human women] will be fair in complexion and will wear green
clothing and yellow jewelry. Their incense-burners will be made of pearls and
their combs will be of gold. They will say, 'We are the women who will stay

"The Messenger of Allâh (saw) said, "I know the last of the people of
Hell who will be brought forth from it, and the last of the people of
Paradise to enter it. It is a man who will come out of Hell crawling on all
fours." Allâh will say to him,
So he will come to it and will suppose that it is full. He will go back and
say, "My Rabb, I found it full". Allâh (swt) will say,
"Go and enter Paradise for there you have something like the world
and ten times over [or you have something ten times better than the
world].
(ii) 'Abdullâh ibn Mas'ûd reported that the Messenger of Allâh (Saw)
said:
"The last person to enter paradise will be a man who will alternately
walk, stagger and be touched by the Fire. Once he has passed out of
the Fire, he will turn to face it and say, "Blessed be He Who has saved
me from you. Allâh (swt) has given me something that He did not give
to the earlier and later generations. Then a tree will be raised up for
him, and he will say, "O my Rabb, bring me closer to this tree so that I
may enjoy its shade and drink of its water". Allâh (swt) will say,
"O son of Aadam perhaps if I grant you this, you will ask Me for
something else?"
He will say, "No, O Rabb, I promise that I will not ask for anything else".
Allâh (swt) will excuse him because he is seeing something that he has
no patience to resist so he will bring him closer and he will enjoy its
shade and drink its water. Then another tree, better than the first, will
be raised up for him and he will say, "O my Rabb, bring me near to this
tree so that I may drink its water and enjoy its shade, then I will not
ask you for anything more". Allâh (swt) will say,
"O son of Aadam did you not promise Me that you would not ask me for
anything else? Perhaps if I bring you closer to this tree you will ask for
more?"
So the man will promise not to ask for any more, and Allâh will excuse
him because he is seeing something that he has no patience to resist,
so He will bring him closer and he will enjoy its shade and drink its
water. Then a third tree will be raised up at the gate of paradise, and it
will be better than the first two. The man will say, "O My Rabb, bring
me closer to this [tree] so that I may enjoy its shade and drink its
water, and I will not ask for anything more." Allâh will say,
"O son of Aadam, did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me
for anything more?"
He will say, "Yes, O Rabb, I will not ask you for anything more." His
Rabb, may He be glorified, will excuse him because he is seeing
something which he has no patience to resist, so He will bring him
closer. When he is brought close, he will hear the voices of the people
of Paradise, and will say, "O my Rabb, admit me to it." Allâh (swt) will
say,
"O son of Aadam what do you want so that you will never ask Me for
anything else? Will it please you if I give you the world and as much
again?"
He will say, "O Rabb, are You making fun of me when You are the Rabb
al-Aâlamîn?"
Ibn Mas'oud smiled and said, "Why do you not ask me why I am
smiling?" They asked, "Why are you smiling?" He said, "Because the
Messenger of Allâh (saw) smiled". They asked, "Why are you smiling, O
Messenger of Allâh (saw)?" He said,
"Because the Rabb of the Worlds will smile when He is asked, "Are You
making fun of me when You are the Rabb of the Worlds?" He will say, "I
am not making fun of you, but I am able to do whatever I will""".

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman said, "The Prophet said, 'Islam will become worn

prayer, charity and rituals are. The Qur'an will disappear in one night,
and no Ayah will be left on earth. Some groups of old people will be left
who will say, 'We heard our fathers saying La ilaha illa Allah, so we
repeated it.' Silah asked Hudhayfah, "What will saying La ilaha illa Allah
do for them when they do not know what prayer, fasting, ritual and charity
are?" Hudhayfah ignored him; then Silah repeated his question three times,
and each time Hudayfah ignored him. Finally he answered, "O Silah, it will
save them from Hell", and said it three times. (Ibn Majah)
'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar said, "The Prophet (sallallahu alayhe wa sallam) came

them. If fornication should become widespread, you should realise that
this has never happened without new diseases befalling the people which
their forebears never suffered. If people should begin to cheat in
weighing out goods, you should realise that this has never happened
without drought and famine befalling the people, and their rulers
oppressing them. If people should withhold Zakat, you should realise that
this has never happened without the rain being stopped from falling; and
were it not for the animals' sake, it would never rain again. If people
should break their covenant with Allah and His Messenger, you should
realise that his has never happened without Allah sending an enemy against
them to take some of their possessions by force. If the leaders do not
govern according to the Book of Allah, you should realise that this has
never happened without Allah making them into groups and making them fight
one another." (Ibn Majah)

Isa bin Muhammad (Alaihir Rahmah) says that I once saw Abu Bakr bin
Mujahid (Alaihir Rahmah) after his death in a dream reading the Holy
Quran. I asked, "You have died, how are you reciting," upon which he
said, "After every Salah and finishing of the Quran, I would pray "O

why I am praying." (Faizan-e-Sunnat)

"It will be said to the reciter of the Qur’aan (on the Day of

ascending the stages of Jannah; and recite it in the same
manner as you had been reciting it in the worldly life; your
final abode will be where you reach when you read the last
Ayah of your recitation."
Ibn 'Amr reported that the Prophet (s.a.w) said, "It will be said to the
companion of the Qur’an after he has entered Paradise, 'Recite, and
rise!' For every verse he recites, he will rise one level (in Paradise),
until he recites the last verse with him (i.e., in his memory)." (Abu
Dawood)
'Abdullaah ibn 'Amr ibn Al-'Aas heard the Prophet (S.A.W) saying:
"It will be said to the companion of the Qur'an:
Read and elevate (through the levels of the Paradise) and beautify

your position in the Paradise will be at the last verse you recite!"

Ibn 'Amr reported that the Prophet (s.a.w) said, "There is no cause to be

hears him and says, 'Woe to me! I wish I had been given what he has been

Allah has blessed with wealth, and he spends it in good causes, so a person

given, then I would do what he is doing!"' (al-Bukharee)

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: “Seven are (the persons) whom

with the worship of Allah; a person whose heart is attached to the mosques; two brothers
in Islam who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a
man whom a beautiful woman of high rank seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects
this offer by saying): "I fear Allah"; a person who gives charity and conceals it (to such
an extent) that the right hand does not know what the left has given and a person who
remembered Allah in privacy and his eyes shed tears.”

Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) then says: "I call you to witness, O My Angels, that for
their having fasted for Me during the month of Ramadhan and for their having
stood before Me in Salaah by night, I have granted to them as a reward My
pleasure and have granted them forgiveness. O My slaves, ask now of Me, for I

front of the transgressors and disbelieves. Return now from here, you are
forgiven. You have indeed pleased Me, and I am pleased with you."

On the authority of Abu Malik al-Harith bin 'Asim al-Ash'ari, radiyallahu 'anhu,
who said: The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said:
[Muslim]
Gentleness
From Abû Hurayrah (RA) who said that Allâh's Messenger (SAW) said:
"Indeed Allâh is gentle and loves gentleness, and gives due to gentleness that which
He does not give to harshness."
~~~
"…and there is no one who loves to accept an excuse more than Allâh, and because
of this he sent the bringers of good news and the warners…." (17)
So a Muslim seeking to make an excuse for his brother and those whom he loves will
cause good will to spread instead of antagonism, and will bring about ties of relationship
instead of estrangement. Since if Allâh, He who is free of all imperfections, grants
excuse, and He is the Creator and the Most Great, then how can you O servant of Allâh, a
weak creation of his, not seek to make excuse for others? Rather as is said: Seek an
excuse for your brother (18). Likewise there is the saying: the believers seek to make
excuses for others, whereas the hypocrites hope for the downfall of others. So the fact
that the Muslim seeks to excuse his brothers emphasises that.
Abu Hamzah Anas bin Malik, radiyallahu 'anhu (may Allah be pleased
with him), reported that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam (may
the peace & blessings of Allah be upon him), said:
"None of you truly believes (in Allah and in His religion) until he loves
for his brother what he loves for himself" [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]
"The servant does not reach the reality of faith until he loves for others
what he loves for himself."
In Sahih Muslim from Abdullah ibn Amr Al-‘As (May Allah be pleased
with him, reported that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said:
Abu Umamah Bin Sahl narrated from his father that the
Prophet (SAW) said,
“He in whose presence a Muslim is humiliated and who does
not help him, being able to help him, God will humiliate him
before all creatures on the Day of Judgment”. (Ahmed)
From an-Nu'maan ibn Basheer (RA) who said that I heard Allâh's Messenger (SAW) say:
"That which is lawful is clear, and that which is forbidden is clear, and between
them are doubtful matters about which many of the people have no knowledge. So
whoever avoids doubtful matters saves his Religion and his honour, and whoever
falls into doubtful matters falls into what is forbidden. Just like a shepherd who
grazes (his sheep) near to a private pasture (of another), he will soon stray on to it.
Indeed for every king there is a private preserve. Indeed the preserve of Allâh are
those things which He has forbidden. Indeed there is a piece of flesh in the body
which if it is good, then the whole body is good, but if it is corrupt then the whole
body is corrupt. Indeed it is the heart."
So the Muslim with regard to whatever situation arises in his life will have to face each of
them with one of the following three stances:
1. Completely refraining from it: That is with regards to that which is doubtful
2. Accepting without constraint: That is with regard to which is clearly permissible
3. To abstain from it: This is with regards to things which are not clearly
permissible nor clearly forbidden.
If the last stance indicates something it is an indication of a Muslim's piety and fear of
falling into that which is forbidden and of entering into something evil.
The Muslim therefore abstains from it, and distances himself from it in order to please
Allâh and to ensure that His commands are followed. It is not to be said, as some people
say: 'That is not forbidden, so do it.' No, since it is not permissible to do everything other
than which has been forbidden. So those things which are doubtful matters are closer to
that which is forbidden, as occurs in the hadîth itself: 'Whoever falls into the doubtful
matters falls into what is forbidden….' So this fear and piety confirms that.
"Do not do what the Jews did in order to legalize Allah's prohibitions
by flimsy excuses."
"And the (faithful) slaves of the Most Gracious (Allah) are those who walk on the
earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad
words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.'' (25:63)
703. `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I have never seen Messenger
of Allah (PBUH) laughing so heartily that his uvula could be seen. He used to smile
only.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
"He was directed to a monk. He came to him and told him that he had killed 99 people
and asked him if there was any chance for his repentance to be accepted."
"He replied in the negative and the man killed him also, completing one hundred. He then
asked about the most learned man on the earth. He was directed to a scholar."
"He [the murderer] told him that he had killed 100 people and asked him if there was any
chance for his repentance to be accepted. The scholar replied in the affirmative and
asked, 'Who stands between you and repentance?'"
'Go to such-and-such land; there (you will find) people devoted to worship of Allah. Join
them in worship, and do not come back to your land because it is an evil place.'"
"So he went away and hardly had he covered half the distance when death overtook him;
and there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of torment. The
angels of mercy pleaded, 'This man has come with a repenting heart to Allah,' and the
angels of punishment argued, 'He never did a virtuous deed in his life.' Then there
appeared another angel in the form of a human being and the contending angels agreed to
make him arbiter between them. He said, 'Measure the distance between the two lands.
He will be considered belonging to the land to which he is nearer.' They measured and
found him closer to the land (of piety) where he intended to go, and so the angels of
mercy collected his soul."
"Some peoples will come on the Day of Judgement and their Imaan will be
outstanding, it's light will shine from their chests and from their right hands. So it
will be said to them, 'glad tidings for you today, Assalaamu alaykum and goodness
for you, enter into it (Jannah) forever!' So the angels and the Prophets will be
jealous of the love of Allah for them". So the Sahabah asked, ' who are they O
Messenger of Allah?' He (saw) replied, "They are not from us and they are not from
you. You are my companions but they are my beloved. They will come after you and
will find the book (the Qur'an) made redundant by the people, and a Sunnah which
has been killed by them. So they will grab hold of the book and the Sunnah and
revive them. So they will read them and teach them (the Qur'an and the Sunnah) to
the people and they will experience in that path a punishment more severe and more
ugly than what you (O Sahabah) have experienced. Indeed, the Imaan of one of
them is equivalent to the Imaan of forty of you. The Shaheed of one of them is
equivalent to forty of your Shuhadaa'. Because you found a helper towards the
truth (the Prophet [saw]) and they will find no helper towards the truth. So they will
be surrounded by tyrant rulers in every place, and they will be in the surroundings
of Bayt ul-Maqdis (al-Quds). The Nussrah (victorious material support) of Allah
will come to them, and they will have the honour of it on their hands". Then he
(saw) said "O Allah give them the Nussrah and make them my close friends in
Jannah"
"Verily, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a
person who has his camel in a waterless desert carrying his provision
of food and drink and it is lost. He, having lost all hopes (to get that
of a sudden he finds that camel standing before him. He takes hold of
its reins and then out of boundless joy blurts out: 'O Allah, You are my
slave and I am Your Rubb'.He commits this mistake out of extreme
joy".
Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The
Prophet (PBUH) said: "Allah, the Exalted, will continue to
of the day may repent, and continue to stretch His
Hand in the daytime so that the sinners of the night
may repent, until the sun rises from the west".
Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah
Another narration is: `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said: Never did the
family of Muhammad (PBUH) eat to the fill, since their arrival to Al-Madinah, the
bread of wheat for three successive nights until his death.
Commentary: This Hadith tells us about the extreme piety, contentment and
simplicity of the Prophet (PBUH). This mode of his life continued to his last days
when he had started storing provision for one year for the maintenance of his wives.
But he would always distribute it among the needy, so much so that nothing was left
with him. Thus, the statement of the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) that the family of
Muhammad (PBUH) had never taken bellyful of food for two days is absolutely
true. If they had it on one day they did not have it on the next day. This is how they
lived their whole life in the companionship of the Prophet (PBUH).
Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The mattress of Messenger of Allah
(PBUH) was a piece of tanned skin stuffed with palm fibres.
[Al-Bukhari].
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “From the
excellence of a man’s Islam is leaving that which does not concern him.”
"It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah.'' (35:28)
Mu`awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said,
"When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of
Deen.''
We asked Abdullah (i.e. Ibn Masud) about this verse: And do not
regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead,
rather are they alive with their Lord, being provided for (surah Ali
Imran, 3: 169). He said: We asked about that and the Prophet
(salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: Their souls are in the insides of
green birds having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming
freely in Paradise where they please, then taking shelter in those
lanterns. So their Lord cast a glance at them and said: Do you
wish for anything? They said: What shall we wish for when we
roam freely in Paradise where we please? And thus did He do to
them three times. When they say that they would not be spared
from being asked [again], they said: O Lord, we would like for You
to put back our souls into our bodies so that we might fight for
Your sake once again. And when He saw that they were not in
need of anything they were let be.
Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah
(PBUH) was asked: "Tell us about a person who does some good deed and
people praise him, will this be considered as showing off?'' He replied, "This is
the glad tidings which a believer receives (in this life).''
[Muslim].
Commentary: We learn from this Hadith that if a person does a virtuous act to please
Allah (i.e., not with the intention to show off) and people praise him for it, then there is
nothing wrong with it. In fact, such praise is the glad tidings which he receives in this
world. Expression of such good opinion about him by the public is akin to a declaration
that Allah is pleased with him. Sincere admiration and praise of someone by the public is
not a disqualification. It is, in fact, an evidence of his virtuous conduct and its recognition
by Allah.
Another of these times is the interval between the adhaan and iqaamah, as
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Du’aa’ made between the adhaan and iqaamah will not be refused.”
Among the situations (when du’aa’ is answered) is when a person is prostrating. The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “With regard to sujood, offer
lots of du’aa’ then, for it is more likely that you will receive a response.” (Narrated by
Muslim, 479). Another occasion is after saying the final tashahhud (in prayer) and before
saying the salaam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Then
let him say whatever du’aa’ he wants.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim).
The Sahaba
"They were youths, yet mature youths, their eyes fresh and free of evil, their
feet refrained from approaching falsehood and futility. They sacrificed and
expended themselves in worship and in withholding themselves from sleep.
They sold their souls which were to pass away for souls which would never die.
Allâh saw them in the latter part of the night, bending their backs, reciting the
Qur'ân. Whenever one of them came to an Ayah mentioning Paradise, he would
weep, longing for it. Whenever he came upon an Ayah mentioning the fire he
would groan out of fear, as if the Hell-fire were directly in front of him. The
earth devoured their knees their hands and their foreheads. They joined
exhaustion in the night with exhaustion in the day. Their colour becoming
yellowed and their bodies emaciated through standing long in prayer and
frequent fasting – whilst they regarded their own actions to be negligible
before Allâh. They fulfilled their covenant with Allâh and attained Allâh's
promise."
(From 40 hadiths on the Islamic Personality; Jamarah Khutabil 'Arab (2/475) of Ahmad Zakiyy Safwat)
"O you who believe! Spend of the good things which you have (legally) earned, and
of that which We have produced from the earth for you, and do not aim at that
which is bad to spend from it.'' (2:267)
Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Abu Talhah (May Allah be pleased
with him) was the richest among the Ansar of Al-Madinah and possessed the largest
property from palm-trees, and among his possessions what he loved most, was his
garden known as Bairuha' which was opposite the mosque, and Messenger of Allah
(PBUH) often visited it and drank from its fresh water. When this Ayah was
revealed: "By no means shall you attain Al-Birr (piety, righteousness - here it means
Allah's reward, i.e., Jannah), unless you spend (in Allah's Cause) of that which you
love,'' (3:92), Abu Talhah came to Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and said, "Allah says
in His Book: `By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend (in Allah's
Cause) of that which you love,' and the dearest of my property is Bairuha' so I have
given it as Sadaqah (charity) for Allah's sake, and I anticipate its reward with Him;
so spend it, O Messenger of Allah, as Allah guides you.'' Messenger of Allah (PBUH)
said, "Well-done! That is profit earning property. I have heard what you have said,
but I think you should spend it on your nearest relatives.'' So Abu Talhah (May
Allah be pleased with him) distributed it among nearest relatives and cousins.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary:
1. This Hadith mentions the spirit of obedience to Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) and
effort which the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) made for attaining a higher status in
virtue.
2. To spend the best of one's property in the way of Allah is a sign of perfection of Faith.
3. In the matter of Sadaqat (alms giving and charity), preference must be given to one's
closest relations, provided they are poor and stand in need of help, otherwise, these
should be spent on other deserving people.
The Suffering of the Believer
Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet said:
"Whenever a Muslim is afflicted by harm from sickness or other matters, Allah will drop
his sins because of that, like a tree drops its leaves."
[Bukhari and Muslim]
Once 10 wise men came to Hadhrat Ali (RA) and posed a question:
"Why is knowledge better than wealth?"
Each of these men demanded a different answer and Hadhrat Ali (R.A)
gave the following answers:
1. Knowledge is better than wealth because you guard wealth, whereas
knowledge guards you.
2. Knowledge is better than wealth because the wealthy have enemies
and the learned have many friends.
3. Knowledge is better than wealth because the former is a legacy of
the Prophets, and the latter is a heritage of the Pharaohs.
4. Knowledge is better because it increases with distribution whereas
wealth decreases.
5. Knowledge is better because a wealthy person generally becomes a
miser.
6. Knowledge is better because unlike wealth, it cannot be stolen.
7. Knowledge is better because the wealthy person has to give an
account of his wealth on the Day of Judgment.
8. Knowledge is better because it does not deteriorate on account of
time, while wealth does.
9. Knowledge is better because the mind is illuminated by it, whereas
wealth tarnishes it.
10. Knowledge is better than wealth because the Pharaohs and the
non-believers claimed divinity (God) on account of wealth.
"Whoever when he wakes in the morning says 'I seek refuge with Allah against the
accursed satan' and then recited three verses from the last part of Surah al Hashr,
will be assigned seventy thousand angels to pray for him until the evening, and
should he die that day, he would have died a martyr"
The Solution
The messenger of Allah (saaws) said: O mankind, I am leaving two things with you, if
you cling to them you will never go astray. The Book of Allah and my way of life. [Al-
Haakim and Al-Baihaqi].
One day, this person supplicated to Allah that, "Oh Allah, bring my
death while I am in the state of prostration." Allah accepted this dua of
his. Whenever Jibrail (as) came down to the Earth, he found this man
prostrating to Allah. Jibrail (as) said that on the day of Judgement, Allah
will tell the angels to take this individual to Paradise through His
mercy. However, this man will insist that he should enter paradise
through the good deeds that he had performed.
Then, Allah will tell the angels to compare his good deeds with the
blessings that were given to him in the world. It will be seen that 500
years of his worship does not even equal to the gift of eye sight that
was given to him by Allah. The angels will be asked to take him
towards the hell fire. Then the man will plead, "Oh Allah! Enter me into
Paradise only through Your mercy." At that point, the following
discussion will take place between Allah and that man.
Allah: Were you created because of the good deeds you have done or
because of My mercy?
Allah: Who granted you the ability to worship for 500 years?
Allah: Who placed you on the mountain surrounded by the ocean? Who
caused a stream of sweet water to flow in between the salty water?
Who caused a pomegranate tree to grow for you? Who granted you
death while in the state of prostration?
The worshipper: Oh the Sustainer of the Worlds! You have done all of
these.
Then Allah will say, "All these have happened due to My mercy and you
too will enter Paradise only through My Mercy."
Arrogance
It is reported that once Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam put his blessed saliva on
the palm of his hand and said, "Allah Ta'ala says, O man it is strange that you are
proud ,where as I created you with water like this and when I completed your
creation, you are wandering on the earth waywardly wearing extravagant clothes,
where as you have to go into the same earth. You collect money and store it and when
death is near you start asking for permission to spend it in charity but there is no time
left now to give charity. (Maqashifatul Quloob)
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH)
said, "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not look at him who trails his lower
garment out of pride.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said,
"On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not look at one who trails his lower garment,
Qamees or turban arrogantly.''
[Abu Dawud and An-Nasa'i].
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said,
"What is below the ankles of a lower garment is condemned to the Fire (Hell).''
[Al-Bukhari]
Taking Bribes
Abdullah Ibn `Amr ibn Al`Aas Radhi-Allahu anhu narrated that The Prophet
(S.A.W) cursed the one who gives bribes and the one who takes bribes.
(Sunan Abu Dawd)
BACKBITING
"Beware of backbiting, for backbiting is more serious than adultery. A man may
commit adultery, and drink [wine], and then repent, and Allah will forgive him.
But, the backbiter will not be forgiven by Allah until his [backbited] companion
forgives him."
[Suyuti, Al-Jami` as-Saghir, 1/174, #2919, from Ibn Abid-Dunya, and Abush-
Shaykh, Al-Tawbikh.]
The Prophet (S.A.W) said :”Do you know what backbiting is?” They said,
“Allah and His Messenger know best.” He then said, “It is to say something
about your brother that he would dislike.” Someone asked him, “But what
if what I say is true?” The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said, “If what you say
about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have
slandered him.” (Muslim)
The Prophet (S.A.W) said; "Every morning, every day, the limbs and the
organs will call out to the tongue and say to the tongue, "Fear Allah in
us & have mercy on us", for we are just a follower of you, if you go
straight we go straight and if you go astray we go astray, so fear Allah
in us.
Abdur- Ra’hman bin Abi Bakrah said that a man was once mentioned in the presence of
the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W). Another man said good words of praise about him. The
Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) then said, “Woe unto you! You have beheaded your friend.
If one of you has to praise, let him say, ‘I think this and that’ (about the praised man), if
he thinks that he deserves it, ‘And his reckoning is with Allah,’ and let him not ascribe
purity (to anyone).”
[Al-Bukhari & Muslim]
Ibrahim At-Taymi said that his father said, “We were sitting in the presence of Umar
when a man praised another man to his face. Umar said, ‘You ‘Aqartahu (crippled him),
may Allah do the same to you.’” Furthermore, Abu Ma’mar said that a man stood up and
praised one of the leaders, then Al-Miqdad started throwing sand in his face, and saying,
“The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) ordered us to throw sand in the faces of the praisers.”
[Muslim, At-Tirmithi, Abu Dawood & ibn Majah]
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah may
peace be upon him) observed: The Satan comes to everyone. of you and says: Who
created this and that? till he questions: Who created your Lord? When he comes to
that, one should seek refuge in Allah and keep away (from such idle thoughts).
Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle said, "People will not stop asking
questions till they say, 'This is Allah, the Creator of everything, then who created
Allah?' " Volume 9, Book 92, Number 399
