HISTORY derived from the Greek word historia means learning by inquiry

FACTUAL history presents readers the plain and basic information vis-a-vis the events that took place
what when who

SPECULATIVE history goes beyond facts because its concerned about why the events happened. Why and
how.

HISTORIANS

- individuals who writes about the history

-seeks to understands the present by examining what went before

HISTORIOGRAPHY

-the practices of historical writings

-imaginative reconstruction of the past from the data derived by that process

HISTORY-AS-ACTUALITY

-the whole history of the past

HISTORY-AS-RECORDS

-tiny part of the whole phenomenon

VERISIMILITIDE

-the truth,authenticity,plausibility

HISTORICAL METHODS

- process of critically examining and analyzing the records and survivals of the past

HISTORICAL ANALYSIS

-historians must select the subject to investigate, collect probable sources of information on the subject,
examine the sources genuineness, in part of in whole, extract credible particulars from the sources

NOTE: synthesis and analysis cannot be separated since they have the common ground, the ability to
understand the past through some meaningful,evocative and convincing historical or cross disciplinary
connections between a given historical issue and other historical contexts, periods, or themes.

LIMITATION OF HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE

-incompleteness of records has limited mans knowledge of history

-Historians ability to reconstruct historical events

-objects or things that have since been forgotten or the experience of generation long dead

-it is a sourced from artifacts that have been left by the past

-can be relics, artifacts or testimonies of witness in the past

-an object from the past or a testimonies concerning the past

-these are original historical sources

ARCHEOLOGICAL

-this evidence is considered as material evidence

DIPLOMATIC SOURCES

-historian considered this as a best sources document/record and existing legal situation as the best
sources

ESCHATOCOL

-it is the third part of diplomatic source the attestation of those responsible with the document,which
may be the author, writer, counter signer and witness to the enactment or the subscription

UNWRITTEN SOURCES

-these historical sources are material by nature

SOCIAL DOCUMENT

-a product of record keeping f a bureau which contains information

LITERATURE

-a historical tract typically composed to inform contemporaries or succeeding generations

SECONDARY SOURCES
-these are materials made by people long after the event is being described had taken place
