2. Marketing objectives
2.1. Market Trend

<Downsizing from legacy Big-Irons>

From the continuous market trend where legacy Big-Iron machines were being replaced by
smaller footstep yet equally productive systems with affordable price and versatile functions,
“Downsizing” has been the keyword in the light-production market. In this field, which is no
longer part of the traditional market where few major players like XEROX and OCE dominate,
competition is intense and business opportunities are opened to numerous new comers.

Still, looking from the customer’s perspective, strict demands for machine reliability, productivity,
and top leveled features are unchanged yet being strengthened day after day. In order to meet
these demands, it is crucial to continue enhancing product capability within this range and
provide wider variety of selection to the customer to increase the total value of the product.

<The launch of MP9000/1100/1350>

After the launch of the MP9000/1100/1350, Ricoh’s presence in the light production market has
been increasing more than ever. With the improved features including high performance
capability (maximum 135 PPM, EFI/ MicroPress solutions), strengthened reliability (monthly
duty of 1000K), and versatile finishing capability (including GBC & Plockmatic solutions),
MP9000/1100/1350 has been successful in achieving its initial sales target to penetrate further
into light-production market. The total value of MP9000/1100/1350 has stood strong even
against longtime market leaders like Xerox in the light production environment

Focusing especially on the US market, MP9000/1100/1350 also serves an important role of

fulfilling market needs in high volume general office where Aficio 1085, 1105 were also
predominant in. Supported by the mass sales to this relatively bigger market, Aficio 1085,1105,
MP9000/1100/1350 series now reached a mile stone of 50,000 units in worldwide sales and
growing. We are continuously seeing numerous successes with the MP9000/1100/1350 with its
superb value as a high productive office center machine.

To continue our success in this market range, with the MP9000/1100/1350 series, our priority is
to maintain its current positioning of targeting both the light production market and high volume
general users.

<Competitive Situation>
Looking at the competitive situation, Canon and Xerox had introduced their new enhanced light
production models to further strengthen their product lineups in this range. KonicaMinolta has
been continuously aggressive to increase market share with its flagship models bizhub PRO
920/1050e and the market leading variety of peripherals. Now Sharp has recently announced its
entering into the HV business targeting light production market with its own new engine and a
very aggressive pricing.

Also looking at the recent trend, it is obvious that competitors are now shifting their resources
heavily into the light production business where higher TDV and numerous business
opportunities lie (from providing 3rd party accessory devices to professional workflow solutions).
As a result, many competitors now categorize their 85+PPM models as “Production model”,
which are dedicated to targeting light-production users and enhancing machine features based
on their needs.

<Introducing the new Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex>

With the reputation of being the rising force in the light production market, we are now set to
introduce our own new production model, the Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex. The first official “Ricoh
PRO” model in the world.

Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex mainframe unit will basically succeed all former MP9000/1100/1350
features and in addition, will have two new finishing devices in its lineup. With these new
peripherals, Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex will now be able to meet wider inline finishing needs,
providing higher upgrade value to current Aficio 1085/1105 customers and aggressively
compete against other vendors in the light production market.

5-1-1 Overview
One of the main objectives for the Model Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex is to expand MIF in high
volume market. Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex offers two types of printer controller, GW based
printer/scanner option, and Fiery (EFI) controller.
We position these controllers by target user segment, GW controller for office environment and
Fiery controller mainly for CRD/PFP environment. Advantages of PostScript printer driver
features and variety of Fiery utilities and options will differentiate these two controllers.

However, some features for CRD/PFP workflow are also added in the GW controller. This
includes features such as imposition setting, printing crop marks and creep adjustment.
Although these features are available only with RPCS printer driver, GW controller will provide
more capabilities for professional usage that were not available for models like Aficio
1085/1105.

5-1-9 Networking Feature Enhancements

1000 Base-T (Gigabit) Ethernet

1000 Base-T Ethernet supports data transfer rates of 1 Gigabit (1,000 megabits) per second.
This makes print data transfer speed to a large extent.

Note: Cable and router need to support 1000Base-T Ethernet.

IPv6
IPv6 is short for "Internet Protocol Version 6". IPv6 is the "next generation" protocol designed by
the IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP
Version 4 ("IPv4").
IPv6 adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas such as routing and network auto-configuration.
This machine (supported with Ethernet or IEEE802.11b) supports Ipv6 capability with dual task
of IPv4.

Remarks:
• Currently our machines support only printing capabilities for IPv6
• IPSec is not supported

Bonjour Support
What is Bonjour?
Bonjour is formally called “Rendezvous”. The name of technology has been changed from Mac
OS X v10.4 “Tiger”. Bonjour is Apple Computer's version of ZeroConf (Zero Configuration
Networking), a set of protocols that enables a device on an IP network to automatically
recognize and connect with other devices on the network. To the end user, this means that
when a new device (such as a printer) connects to the network, every computer on the network
is able to use it instantly without any setup or special configuration. Bonjour uses IETF
standards for both Link Local Addressing (LLA) and Multicast DNS (mDNS). mDNS allows the
new device to advertise its existence and the services it offers. LLA looks around, negotiates
with other devices on the subnet, and picks a suitable IP address for the device.

Bonjour provide you with the following three solutions:

Addressing (allocating IP addresses to hosts)
Naming (using names to refer to hosts instead of IP addresses)
Service discovery (finding and using services on the network)

For more detailed information, refer to Apple computer Website;

Windows Active Directory support

Purpose and Benefits
Paper Size setting tab is added in the PCL printer property. The new tab is to support Active
Directory function of MS Windows operation system. It allows the administrator of the printer
server to have the access to the settings of paper size of every available input tray, which
determines the available paper size for the client user, and thus supports Active Directory.

Supported OS: 2000/XP or later

DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) Support

How it works
Records (**) managed by DNS server will be dynamically renewed.
Without DDNS, manual renewal of records required when DNS client’s IP address is changed.
(**) Records are two type of mapping information as follows;
1.”A” record for host name to IP address
2.”PTR” record for IP address to host name.

Customer benefits
Under conventional DNS function, name resolution does not work with following cases.
1.Change of IP address for MFP
2.Change of Device Name for MFP

However, with DDNS function, above change will be automatically notified to DNS server, name
resolution work even after these changes.

WPA support (Wireless LAN interface option)

WPA (Wi-Fi Protect Access) is new interoperable Wi-Fi security specifications introduced by
Wi-Fi Alliance.
WPA addresses all known vulnerabilities in WEP (Note). WPA also provides user authentication,
since WEP lacks any means of authentication. Designed to secure present and future versions
of IEEE 802.11 devices, WPA is a subset of the IEEE 802.11i specification.
When properly installed, WPA provides a high level of assurance to enterprises, small
businesses and home users that data will remain protected and that only authorized users may
access their networks. For enterprises that have already deployed IEEE 802.1X authentication,
WPA offers the advantage of leveraging existing authentication databases and infrastructure.

Note: WEP (Wired Equivalency Privacy) is a coding system designated to protect wireless data
transmission.

Important Note:
IEEE802.1x support indicates both for wired (Ethernet) and Wireless LAN and although WPA
use IEEE802.1x , our products only support wireless LAN only.

Enterprise and Personal Modes

There are 2 modes of WPA certification - Enterprise and Personal. Both provide an

Printing with CUPS(Common UNIX Printing System)

The PPDs of the MFPs/LPs on LinuxPrinting.org started to be posted on February 22nd, 2005.
By distributing PPDs on LinuxPrinting.org, it will be possible to capture potential customers who
will purchase the MFPs/LPs under UNIX/Linux printing environment. That will contribute to
expansion of MFP/LP sales and capture TDV.

What is CUPS?
CUPS stands for "Common UNIX Printing System" which has become popular printing system
in Linux environment. CUPS covers the both Berkeley commands and System V commands,
which means users can use it without any confusion. CUPS provides effective and reliable
printing system.
CUPS supports;
IPP(Internet Printing Protocol) native, which supports authentication, access control and
encryption
lpd, SMB (=supports printers connected to Windows network)
Browsing network connected printers.
PPD (PostScript Printer Description) can be implemented in CUPS, which enables users to use
printers unique features and device options.

45
Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex

This means UNIX/Linux users can use printers just like Windows OS easily.
After the first CUPS version released in 1999, it is adopted in many Linux distribution packages
since CUPS is free software provided under the terms of the GNU General Public License and
GNU Library General Public License.
For more details, please refer to http://www.cups.org/

What is LinuxPrinting.org
LinuxPrinting.org is an official site to support and help with printing under open source free
operating systems like GNU/Linux and the BSDs or under commercial UNIX-like systems such
as Solaris and OS X.
For supporting unique features and device options of each printers, CUPS needs each PPDs of
printer venders. So, LinuxPrinting.org has been distributing PPDs of several manufactures'
printers. Most of Linux distribution package vendors are using to obtain printers PPDs to bundle
them into their distribution package.
Posting PPDs on LinuxPrinting.org should be the right way to promote this machine to
UNIX/Linux users.
For more details information, please refer to http://www.linuxprinting.org/

The stance for the PPDs distribution on LinuxPrinting.org

As PPDs posted on LinuxPrinting.org is modified as free software under the MIT license*, there
will be no official supports for posted PPDs.
For more details of support policy, please refer to "Support policy for PPDs on LinuxPrinting.org
and CUPS printing" issued with the announcement about PPD distribution for CUPS.

Printing in SAP/R3 Environment

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is an industry recognized term for the broad set of
activities supported by multi-module application software that helps managing important parts of
the business – such as product planning, purchasing, inventory, supplier interaction, customer
service, order tracking, etc.
In addition, Finance and Human Resources management can be added to manage other
functions of the business.
The demands for the adoption of these types of resource management products are increasing
year by year.
SAP R/3, Peoplesoft and J D Edwards are amongst some of the more popular ERP systems.

Novell NDPS Gateway

NDPS Gateway Snap-Ins is required to configure printers to operate in Novell Netware NDPS
(Novell Distributed Print Service) architecture.

Following description shows how NDPS gateway works under NetWare environment.
The NetWare printer can be discovered by the NDPS gateway
Also can be manually added to the NDPS manager where the NDPS gateway resides.
If the NDPS client wants to add an NDPS printer to its desktop, it queries NDPS brokers about
all available NDPS printers.
The NDPS broker informs the NDPS client of the list of NDPS printer agents.
After a printer agent is selected, the correct printer driver is downloaded to the NDPS client’s
desktop.
Later, the NDPS client sends print jobs to the printer agent, which is a virtual printer image
created in the NDPS network.
The NDPS manger then passes the print jobs to the NDPS gateway that issues the native
printing commands to the printer.

Printing on Citrix Metaframe

Server Based Computing (SBC) has been gotten highly attention from the system management
TM
viewpoint lately. MetaFrame gets 80% of share on this SBC market according to Citrix®,
The benefit of Server Based Computing is that the system simplify IT managers’ task.

Installing application software and/or device driver, IT manager (IT support stuff) must install
them to all clients PCs, for example. Under SBC environment, installation is only for the server
side. It is also the benefit of SBC that securing data from simple mistake of client PC user.
Making access limitation, creating firewall, introducing virus countermeasure and other security
steps are taking to protect data. However, if the client PC, especially laptop, is stolen, all
important data in the unit is completely stolen. This incident cannot be protected by any IT
countermeasures.

This MetaFrameTM has its own unique printer function. However, there is a major limitation of
printer option device management with this standard function.
The printer option device limitation means that options that are installed on a printer cannot be
utilized.
Printer options cannot be utilized means that commonly used printer functions at an office are
not available.
For example; Turnover paper option (duplex option) for both sides printing. Additional optional
paper trey to keep absolute quantity and variety kinds of paperFinisher for making documents
with staples, or making a punch hall to binding documents. Optional HDD and additional
memory for temporary saving data.

Device Option Utility for Metaframe was developed to resolve these problems.

Other Enhanced Features for Non-Windows Environment

New PCL Resident Fonts

Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew fonts are included as international fonts and they can be
designated as default font as the same method as HP printers. Customers who use these such
language characters do not need to install these fonts in the machine.

Tray Parameters change from WebImageMonitor

This feature provides settings to replace PCL/PS input tray parameters through web browser or
web service ("Tray Parameters").
Tray Parameters in PCL/PS can be browsed and set from Web Image Monitor (available only in
Administrator mode).

User benefit:
When customer replaces printer made by other manufacturer, tray selection behavior of our
printer may not meet customer's expectations due to difference in tray parameter settings
between the printers.
(For example, 8 is the parameter for tray 1 in PCL, but this parameter can be replaced to 4.
In such case, parameters of the new printer can be changed to the parameters of the printer
that has been replaced; therefore, printer can be used without making changes on user host
applications.

Note:
Maximum of 3 parameters (from 0 to 99) can be set for each tray to enable printing even when
Windows and host print environment coexist. Setting is available for trays that are set to the
printer and for auto-tray selection behavior.

59
Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex

Overwrite Timing
There are two types of overwrite timing with DOS option type C/D/F as below;
Auto Erase Memory (Event driven)
Erase All Memory(Batch)

Auto Erase Memory overwrites the data at the end of each job, whereas Erase All Memory
overwrites the entire contents of the temporary and management areas of the HDD as well as
the data in the NV-RAM and FCU (details below). Both functions are provided to the field as
optional software stored on SD cards, which must be inserted in the MFP slot at all times in
order to use the function. If the card is taken out of the slot, Data Erase/Overwrite cannot be
used.

[Auto Erase Memory]

-The main purpose of this feature is to automatically overwrite data stored to the processing
region of the HDD, i.e. data that is saved to the HDD for purposes of MFP internal processing
only, of which users are normally unaware. Auto Erase Memory prevents this unnecessary data
from remaining in the HDD by overwriting it as soon as it is no longer used by the MFP.

-In addition, it is also possible to manually erase data that was intentionally saved to the HDD,
such as Document Server documents.

Note: If the timing of the Auto Erase Memory overwrite coincides with a command received by
the MFP for any other operation, this other operation is given priority. The data overwrite is then
performed once this other operation is completed.

[Erase All Memory]

-This function overwrites the contents of every region of the HDD and initializes the contents of
the NV-RAM and FCU. Since this operation makes it impossible to retrieve or reconstruct the
contents of the HDD in addition to initializing the FCU data, Erase All Memory is primarily used
at machine disposal or at the conclusion of a machine lease or rental contract. It is therefore
necessary to back up the information mentioned above or send it to a PC for storage before
executing Erase All Memory.

-By initializing the contents of the NVRAM to their default values, this feature prevents

Embedded- Cumin-N
This device equips Cumin-N as a standard function.
Cumin (Embedded type) functionality is a subset of Basil’s functionality. The main difference is that
Cumin is embedded in GW architecture. Where Basil can monitor up to 500 additional devices,
Cumin can only monitor its own meter data, device status or communicate on its own behalf. It
cannot monitor other device.

Terminology
HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer, or HTTP over SSL):
HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer, or HTTP over SSL) is a Web
protocol developed by Netscape and built into its browser that encrypts and decrypts user page
requests as well as the pages that are returned by the Web server. HTTPS is really just the use of
Netscape's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) as a sublayer under its regular HTTP application layering.
(HTTPS uses port 443 instead of HTTP port 80 in its interactions with the lower layer, TCP/IP.) SSL
uses a 40-bit key size for the RC4 stream encryption algorithm, which is considered an adequate
degree of encryption for commercial exchange.

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol):

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a way for a program running in one kind of operating
system (such as Windows 2000) to communicate with a progam in the same or another kind of an
operating system (such as Linux) by using the World Wide Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol
(HTTP)and its Extensible Markup Language (XML) as the mechanisms for information exchange.
Since Web protocols are installed and available for use by all major operating system platforms,
HTTP and XML provide an already at-hand solution to the problem of how programs running under
different operating systems in a network can communicate with each other. SOAP specifies exactly
how to encode an HTTP header and an XML file so that a program in one computer can call a
program in another computer and pass it information. It also specifies how the called program can
return a response.

MIB (Management Information Base):

A management information base (MIB) is a formal description of a set of network objects that can
be managed using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The format of the MIB is
defined as part of the SNMP. (All other MIBs are extensions of this basic management information
base.) MIB-I refers to the initial MIB definition; MIB-II refers to the current definition. SNMPv2
includes MIB-II and adds some new objects.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer):
The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of a
message transmission on the Internet. SSL has recently been succeeded by Transport Layer
Security (TLS), which is based on SSL. SSL uses a program layer located between the Internet's
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Transport Control Protocol (TCP) layers. SSL is included as
part of both the Microsoft and Netscape browsers and most Web server products. Developed by
Netscape, SSL also gained the support of Microsoft and other Internet client/server developers as
well and became the de facto standard until evolving into Transport Layer Security. The "sockets"
part of the term refers to the sockets method of passing data back and forth between a client and a
server program in a network or between program layers in the same computer. SSL uses the
public-and-private key encryption system from RSA, which also includes the use of a digital
certificate.

Data Encryption Standard (DES):

Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a widely-used method of data encryption using a private
(secret) key that was judged so difficult to break by the U.S. government that it was restricted for
exportation to other countries. There are 72,000,000,000,000,000 (72 quadrillion) or more possible
encryption keys that can be used. For each given message, the key is chosen at random from
among this enormous number of keys. Like other private key cryptographic methods, both the
sender and the receiver must know and use the same private key.

SC (Service Call):
There are 4 types of SC Conditions
Level A ; An SC condition is continually displayed on the copier operation panel. The
operator cannot reset it.
Level B ; An SC for a limit function. SC condition will be displayed only when the detected
function is selected. The operator can reset it by turning the machine off and on.
Level D ; SC condition is displayed on the copier. The operator can reset it by turning the machine
off and on.
Level C ; No SC displayed. The SC occurrence is logged.
68
Pro 906ex/1106ex/1356ex

CC (Center Call):
There are 4 types of CC Conditions
Consecutive Jams ; Any paper jam occurring 5 times consecutively
Continuous Jam ; An original or paper jam condition that remains for 15 minutes
Cover Open ; An open cover that occurs for more than 15 minutes
Customer replaceable kit : End call for e.g. Waste Toner bottle, Fuser Oil (As for the items, it’s
depends on device)

Alarm (Alarm Calls):

There are 3 types of Alarm Calls.
PM Alarm : When the PC counter reaches at the volume of the PM alarm setting, the PC
immediately send the PM alarm data to the Center. The PM alarm volume can be set in SP
mode of the product.
SC Alarm : When the SC counter reaches at the setting point, the product sends he SC
alarm data to the Center. If any SC occurs, SC counter will be increased. If SC does not
occur for a certain CV, SC counter will be decreased. The CV to decrease SC counter is set
by factory, but can change in SP mode of the product in 100 or 1000 CV step. When the SC
counter reaches at the setting point, the product will send the SC alarm data to the Center,
then reset the SC counter to 0.
Jam Alarm ; When the Jam counter reaches at 10, the product sends the Jam alarm data to the
Center, then reset Jam counter to 0. If Jam occurs, Jam counter will be increased. If Jam does not
occur for a certain CV, Jam counter will be decreased. The CV to decrease Jam counter can be set
in SP mode of the product in 100 or 1000 CVB step.

Start to create Web SmartDeviceMonitor
Version 2 (Forest) that will be the successor of
Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 1.4
(Cypress), in response to these wishes of the
market.

The Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 2 (Forest) major objective is reducing “Device Management
Task.” To reach the goal, Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 2 (Forest) introduces many new ideas.
The most conspicuous is the UI (User Interface.) UI is completely re-designed aiming visually very
easy to understand. Fore

better functions of device
installation, and setting than Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 1.4 (Cypress).

In addition to Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 1.4 (Cypress), highly demanded function of RFU
(Remote Firmware Update) function will be added onto Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 2 (Forest).
Using this RFU function, it is not necessary to update device firmware one by one manually. Which
means, this function has a potential to be utilized not only customer IT managers but 3rd vendor who
offers device maintenance.

Driver distribution function is also added another key. It is not the simple function that just
distribute driver to the client. A tool, which comes with Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 2
(Forest) can create a driver package that contains default function change, information of
attached option, and device IP address. And Web SmartDeviceMonitor Version 2 (Forest) sends
an e-mail, which has URL that linked to the configured driver package. Utilizing this function,
for example, change print default to 2 in 1 and/or duplex, and change setting such clients group
has limitation to access color function, even if they are connected to color products. These
default and setting changed driver effect customer’s TCO reduction very quickly.
