All Students of Halu Oleo University Should Take TOEFL Test before They Graduate

TOEFL is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native

speakers wishing to enroll in English speaking universities. TOEFL divided into three parts. It is
IBT, PBT, and CBT. Most of us already know PBT (Paper Based Test). We always use it to take
a test to know our development in English. We take TOEFL test for academic purpose or for find
some work. Although TOEFL is really important, but several people / students do not think like
that. They think that TOEFL do not important for their life. To know more about this TOEFL,
there are some agreements and disagreements about all students of Halu Oleo University should
take TOEFL test before graduate.

The first agreement is TOEFL test will help student to know their ability. Ability is the
quality or state of being able; capacity to do; capacity of doing something; having the necessary
power. In English, ability is really important. If you do not have ability, it will be hard for you.
Now, with TOEFL test, we can know which one of our skill is still less. Because, in TOEFL test,
there are three part of skills that have been tested. They are Reading Comprehension, Structure
and Written Expression, and Writing Comprehension. If one of these skills get less score, it
means we must study again until perfect.

Next, TOEFL test will help university student to do Thesis Exam and get job. For now, if
we want to do Thesis Exam, we should take TOEFL test. But, we must get at least 450 scores. If
we do not reach it, we cannot follow the exam. In this era, one of the requirements to get a job is
having higher TOEFL score. Like 450-600. If we have these scores, we will get a good job in the
future.

However, some of students disagree about this topic. They will not take it because they
do not study anything which related to English. They only think that TOEFL test is only for
English Department or English Literature major. Because of this perception, another student
from other major in Halu Oleo University will not take this test.
 In conclusion, some of student of Halu Oleo University especially in English Department
should take this TOEFL test. But, for another major it can be optional. Because, some of them
have different perception. So, I recommend to giving them socialization. We must do this for
them to change their perception of TOEFL test. Because, we cannot change their mind. So when
they know how important this test, they will change their mind and want to take this test before
graduate.
