PVC conduits are used wherever concealed in the slab. Surface conduiting in carpark areas, plant
room area (or) any other service area are done by GI conduits. Surface conduits above ceiling will
be PVC conduits, unless specified.
If No. of sockets connected in one circuit are 4 or less than it is called radial circuit, otherwise it is
ring circuit.
No. of cables, over all dia of the cable then spacing between cable (2D min space)
9. What are the standard sizes of power cables available? (mention only above 50mm2)
70mm2, 95mm2, 120mm2, 150mm2, 185mm2, 240mm2, 300mm2, all 4-cores & 1c, 630mm2
10. What is the size of Main breaker used in DB if connected load to the DB is 45Kw?
I=P / √3xVxCosØ = 45x1000 / 1.73x400x0.8 = 81.28 ≈ 100ª
EXAMPLE: If DB load is 80 kw
11. How do you determine the Main Breaker size of the Panel?
The main breaker size of the panel can be determined by calculating the load current from the total
connected load in that panel.
12. What are the factors to be considered while determining the cable size?
13. Mention the cable size used for the breakers given below:
• 125A : 50mm2
• 200A : 95mm2
• 400A : 300mm2
• 800A : 2X300mm2
14. What is the minimum depth required for laying of underground power cables?
15. Explain briefly about installation detail of under ground power cables?
1) Power cables to be laid at 800mm depth 2) Back fill with soft sand 3) Provide concrete tiles )
4.Earth fill & warning tape.
16. What are the factors to be considered while calculating the Voltage Drop? Give the formula
for voltage drop calculation?
1) Load Current 2) Voltage drop in MV/ per meter per Amp (as per catalogue) 3) length of the
cable.
VD=MVxILxL in volts % VD=VDx100
1000 V
17. What is the maximum permissible Percentage Voltage drop for any cable run? And what
needs to be done if the voltage drop exceeds?
2.5% maximum. If it exceeds 2.5% cable has to be increased to the next higher size.
Automatic transfer switch, its purpose is to transfer the load from normal supply to generator
supply in case of power failure.
19. What is the Minimum clearance required around MDB in LV Room? (Front, Back & Both
sides)
20. What is the Maximum Demand Load (MDL) allowed in MDB for 1500kVA Transformer?
1200kw
21. What is the approximate value of diversity factor permitted in the MDB? (Give breakdown
for Normal Load & for AC loads)
1) copper tape 2) lightning arrestors 3) bending clamps 4) earth pits 5) down conductor (steel or
Copper).
1200w
2.5mm2
25. What is the maximum size of breaker used in DB for lighting circuits?
15A
26. What is the rating of ELCB provided in the DB for lighting circuits?

27. What is the approximate distance between pull boxes in power & lighting circuits?
From 12 to 15 meters
• Cooker : 100mA
• Jacuzzi : 10mA
• Lifts : 300mA
