STANDARD VALVE LIST DISCUSSION DOCUMENT

BASIC PRINCIPALS

Field titles are always the same as below.

Standard abbreviations are to be used. We have a list which has been generated
by electrical from a Baden list and which is about to be published as an EP.

The abbreviations are mainly to IEEE standards. Currently valve types are not on
the abbreviation list and need to be added.

We should assume that we are heading towards a data base system so we

should not have intermediate headers in the list.

Field widths can vary but the list should always be readable when printed at A4
size, and photocopied twice.

Some data may eventually come from other data bases or spread sheets, the
idea is that nothing gets entered in two places.

If we end up with a data base system as planned, purchasing will enter PO

numbers etc and update status.

Tag information will be the same as shown on the valve list. This is to prevent a
potential extra step later in the process when we order the Tags.

Each valve has a separate unique KKS or tag number, duplicate numbers are not
acceptable.

Eng.xla to be modified to just show the class, currently it looks like this if
automatic selection based on pressure and temperature and material is used:-

P BARG TC MAT CLASS

150 340 SA105 C 1500#
150 340 SA182F11 E 1500#

Although useful in some ways this causes problems with our clients and with
suppliers as the class as shown is actually incorrect.

Each valve list is to appear on a separate XL workbook . This avoids in file

headers and makes the process compatible with data bases. In a data base, the
valve type would be a field.

By valve type we mean :- Safety valves, Block Valves, Check and Non Return
valves, Control valves, Blowdown valves, blowoff valves, Manual Isolating
valves, Motorised valves, Pneumatically operated valves, Trim valves (manual
valves below and including 50 mm)

ITEMS ON PREVIOUS LISTS NOT INCLUDED

FIELD NAME REASON FOR FIELD

WEIGHT Not required by stress team as they either us
catalogue data or the suppliers drawings. Causes
rework. Also seen to be required by purchasing if
they need to ship the valve. If required this info
should come from the valve supplier direct as it
would then include the packing weight.
LENGTH Again to be derived from catalogue initially then
from drawing – the intention is to update the Vendor
data forms such that we get basic outside
dimensions in advance of the final drawings
