BLESSED CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Prepared by: Rhona Mae B. Belen

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
a. visualize and describe the different solid figures;
b. calculate the surface area of the solid figures; and
c. cooperate in a group through classroom activity.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Surface Area of Solid Figures
Values Integration: Positive attitude inside and outside the classroom and helping each
other.

Materials: Visual Aids, Laptop

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Acivity
 Routine Activities

“Good Morning Class.” “Good Morning Ma’am Rhona.”

“De Lima, kindly lead the prayer.” (The student will lead the prayer)

“Please pick-up the pieces of paper under (The students will pick-up the pieces of
your chairs.” paper under their chairs)

“You may now take your seats.” (The students will take their seat)

“Ms. Badidles, is everybody present for (The secretary will stand and tell if all are
today?” present or not)

 Activity

“Let’s have a review of our previous

lesson.”
(The teacher will post a formulas of area of (The students will identify the formula if
square, triangle and circle) it’s area of square, triangle and rectangle)

“Very Good class that all of you still

remember our yesterday’s lesson.”

“In this afternoon we will go to different (The students will assemble the puzzle)
places in the world. But before that we need
a ticket to travel. In order for us to get a
ticket, I will give you a puzzle that you need
to assemble.”
“Ma’am we’ve formed Mayon Volcano.”
“What picture did you formed?”

“Next one, what picture did you formed?” “Ma’am we’ve formed Tower of Pisa.”

“How about the last picture, what is it?” “Ma’am we’ve formed Dome of the Rock.”

“Job well done class.”

BLESSED CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

“Because all of you assembled correctly the (The teacher will give the ticket to
puzzle, I will give you the ticket from students)
Travel and Tours Inc. for you to travel the
world.”

 Analysis

“What have you noticed on the puzzle that “The pictures are all beautiful sceneries.”
you assembled?”

“Aside from that, what have you notice on “Ma’am the Dome of the Rock, is sphere
the figures of these places?” on structure.”

“Exactly. How about the Mayon Volcano?” “Ma’am the Mayon Volcano is a perfect
cone shape.”

“Very Good. Lastly, how about the Tower “Ma’am the Tower of Pisa is cylindrical in
of Pisa?” structure.”

“Awesome. The sphere, cone and cylinder, “Ma’am those are called solid figures.”
what do you call to that figures?”

“Without further ado, our lesson for today is

computing the area of solid figures.”

 Abstraction

“Use the ticket that I gave to you earlier as

we travel to some of the beautiful sceneries
of the world. At the back of your ticket, tally
the number of times you will recite today.”

“There are many solid figures but we will

focus on the three solid figures which are
cylinder, cone and sphere.”

“First, let’s define cylinder.”

1. Cylinder is a solid geometric figure with (The student will read the meaning of
straight parallel sides and a circular or oval cylinder)
cross section.

The formula of surface area of cylinder is

given by

Where is the radius and is the height.

For example, find the surface area of the (The student will start answering the given
cylinder below. example)

“Very good. Next one is the cone.”

“What is a cone?”
Cones is a solid geometric figure that has a (The student will read the meaning of
circular base and a single vertex. cone)

“Lastly, let’s define sphere.”

Sphere has a curved surface in which all (The student will read the meaning of
points on the surface are equal distance from sphere)
the center.

“Very good. You understand our lesson, so

Travel and Tours Inc. send us a letter of
gratitude. According to the letter…”

 Application

“Your class will be divided into four

groups.”

“This activity is entitled Whodunnit?.

Class, all you need to do is act like
detective and solve the 10 problems about
the topic. Each correct answer will result in
a clue. Students will check off the
passengers, last known whereabouts
location, and methods that are accounted
for. The one remaining from each column is
the correct answer.”
(The teacher will distribute the paper
containing the problems)

“In order to get the letter from Travel and

Tours Inc. and proceed to next destination,
you need to solve correctly the clues given.”

“You only have 10 minutes to answer the (The students will start answering their
activity, so work as a group. Please don’t activity)
make any loud noises and work as a team.
You may now start answering.”

(After 10 minutes of answering)

“Are you all done?” “Yes Ma’am.”

(The teacher will reveal the anwers)

“Please pass the papers forward.”

“Job well done class, we’ve solved the case.

Give yourselves a big round of applause”

“As a reward, the Travel and Tours Inc. give

you another letter.”

 Assessment

“According to the Travel and Tours Inc.,

before they will send us home, get one
whole sheet of yellow paper and answer this
for 10 minutes. Copy and answer”

Directions: Solve for the surface area of the

following figures.

classmates)

“Are all of you got the same answer?

“Who got perfect score?”

“Very good.”

“Please pass your papers forward.”

 Assignment

“Before we end our session, the Travel and

Tours Inc. extended their deepest gratitude
to us, that is why, they gave us an another
letter”

“According to them, read in advance about

the other solid figures.”

“Do you have any questions before we end “None Ma’am.”

our discussion for today?”

“So that’s it for today, goodbye and thank “Good bye and thank you Ma’am Rhona.”
you”
