Songwriting and Recording Competition

I. DESCRIPTION

HANYAG MUGNA: Songwriting and Competition is a school-based


song writing competition in original
Cebuano/Hiligaynon/English/Tagalog music being held under the
auspices of student musicians in cooperation with Bayawan
National High School- Senior High School Department. With the
curriculum support through the subject in HUMSS Creative Writing/
Creative Non Fiction, this will serve as an avenue for young artist in
the campus.

II. OBJECTIVES

 To provide a venue for the creative expression of thoughts, ideas and


sentiments of BNHS-SHS student artist, through contemporary music
through creative writing.

 To encourage new or innovative forms or styles in musical


compositions and set trends for young creative writers through the
music scene in BNHS-SHS.

III. ELIGIBILITY AND DISQUALIFICATION

 The Campaign is open to BNHS-SHS students enrolled in the school


year 2019-2020.

 Entries that are not in the scope of BNHS-SHS are considered


disqualified.

IV. ALLOWABLE NUMBER OF ENTRIES

A contestant can only enter one song, either as a sole composer


or collaborators. With maximum collaborator of 4 including
Instrumentalists.

V. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT FOR ENTRIES

 Entries must be wholly original compositions and the copyright


thereof must be owned exclusively by the songwriter-contestant.

 Each entry may be composed by one individual or a collaboration of 2


or more songwriters.

 The following are disqualified as entries:

a. Instrumental compositions;

b. Compositions which have been previously published, recorded or released;

c. Compositions which have entered the finals of any song competition in


the Philippines or abroad.

d. Commissioned musical works;

e. Compositions which are found to contain 2 or more melodic bars or


lyrics similar to a published or released song in the Philippines or
abroad;
f. Lyrics that are substantial translation of a published work or released
song in the Philippines or abroad;

g. Failure of the entry to comply with any of the published requirements


shall be sufficient ground for disqualification.

VI. ENTRY FORMS

 Entry forms are available at the eLibrary

 Duly accomplished entry forms must accompany all entries. If the


entry has one or more songwriters or lyricists, each must sign the
entry form.

VII. LENGTH OF SONG

The song must not exceed four minutes and thirty seconds
(4:30), inclusive of intro and outro.

VIII. INSTRUMENTATION

 One or a combination of musical instruments may be used.

 Introductions and explanations which are not part of the song are
not allowed.

IX. LYRICS AND LYRIC SHEET

 As a general rule, the lyrics of the song must be in


Cebuano/Hiligaynon/English/Tagalog. Colloquial expressions and other
made-up terms are allowable as well.

 The name of the composer/lyricist shall not appear on the lyric sheet.

 Introductions and explanations which are not part of the lyrics are
not allowed.

 The content of the song should be aligned with the theme of the film

X. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES

 Entries must be submitted online.

 All entries must be received by the songwriting competition


secretariat by 9 pm of February 26, 2019, Philippine Standard time.
There shall be no extension of the deadline.

 with the following as attachments:

 Scanned duly accomplished entry form in .jpeg format

 Lyrics sheet in .doc format

 Recording in .mp3 file of the entry song

• Failure to comply with any of these requirements shall be sufficient


ground for disqualification.
XI. SCREENING OF ENTRIES

• A Screening Committee shall audition all entries and determine the


six (5) finalist songs.

• The finalist will perform at the ART Month Celebration on February 28,
2020, Friday.

• The decision of the Screening Committee is final and binding on all


parties concerned.

XII. BOARD OF JUDGES

• A Board of Judges shall choose the winners from among the six (5)
finalists.

• The decision of the Board of Judges is final and binding on all


parties concerned.

XIII. CRITERIA FOR SCREENING AND JUDGING

• All entries shall be judged according to the following general criteria:

a. Music (the quality of melody, harmony and rhythm) 30%

b. Lyrics (the arrangement of words and ideas and relevance to


the film) 30%

c. Over-all impact (music treatment, commercial appeal,


radio-friendliness, uniqueness and breakthrough qualities)
40%

• SiHAG Media shall have the sole right to designate the persons who
shall constitute the Screening Committee and the Board of Judges
whose decisions shall be final and unappealable.

XIV. Prize and Award

There is winner in the competition and will receive the


following:
* CHAMPION will receive CASH PRIZE and a Trophy
* 1st Runner Up will receive CASH PRIZE and a Certificate
* 2nd Runner Up will receive CASH PRIZE and a Certificate

Awarding will be on February 28, 2020 (AFTER THE PERFORMANCE)
