Calculates the design shear capacity of a wall for in-plane shear strength in accordance with Clause 11.6 of AS3600
Calculates the ultimate moment bending capacity of the section for a given steel arrangement (1 or 2 layers of tension
Limitations : reinforcement).
For walls in compression where the ratio of the effective height to the thickness does not exceed 30 as set out in Clause 11.5.1.
Considers all minimum reinforcement and spacing requirements to AS3600.

Simplified design methods for a braced wall subject to vertical compression forces Cl 11.5
Clause 11.5.1 Design axial strength of a wall
Eccentricities are calculated from centre of wall being designed Plan of wall
(Allow for positive and negative values as required)
Eccentricity of vertical load applied by the floor at the top of the wall as determined from Cl 11.5.2 (a) e1 33.0 mm
Eccentricity of aggregated vertical load applied above the floor over from Cl 11.5.2 e2 -12.5 mm Floor
Usually 0 unless wall over is not the same size
Note Hw <= L1
Design axial strength per unit length of a braced wall in compression per m length ØNu 1,380 kN/m Wall is OK as N* per m < ØNu per m
Maximum allowable ultimate load over length L1 10,489 kN for total length of wall
Actual maximum ultimate factored load over L1 per m length 494 kN/m
Results
Eccentricity of vertical load e 10.0 mm ØNu 1,380 kN/m
Effective height Hwe Hwe 4,800 mm N* 494 kN/m
ea an additional eccentricity ea 46.1 mm

Design of walls for in-plane shear forces Clause 11.6
When Hw/Lw ≤ 1
pw is the lesser of the horizontal or vertical reinforcement ratios
Floor
When Hw/Lw > 1
pw is the horizontal ratio Elevation of wall
Input reinforcement ratio pw to be used 0.0028 (Note the minimum reinforcement ratio
should be 0.0015 in accordance with Cl 11.7)
Effective height of wall Cl 11.4
Factor k 1.00 Choose an appropriate value from the three options below
depending on whether the wall is in one way or two way buckling
(a) One way buckling (lateral support top and bottom)
k = 0.75 where restraint against rotation is provided at both ends ie top and bottom; and
k = 1.0 where no restraint against rotation is provided at one or both ends
Design Calculations
Effective height of a wall Hwe 4,800 mm
Check Hwe/tw ≤ 50 24.0 OK Slenderness ratio less than or equal to 50
(Note the Hwe/tw may be limited ≤ 40 due to fire considerations. See Section 5 of AS 3600)
Calculate web crushing limit Vu.max CL 11.6.2
Vu.max = 0.2 fc′ (0.8Lw tw) Vu.max = 9,728 kN
ØVu.max = 6,810 kN V* < f Vu.max OK 2746%
Calculate shear strength of a wall without shear reinforcement Cl 11.6.3
Cl 11.6.3 (a) for HW/LW ≤ 1
Vuc = { 0.66 √f'c -0.21 Hw/Lw √f'c} 0.8 Lw tw Vuc (1) = 4,056 kN Note if the figure is negative, then the equation does not apply
Cl 11.6.3 (b) for HW/LW > 1 when Hw/Lw >1
Vuc = { 0.05 √f'c+0.1* √f'c/(Hw/Lw-1) } 0.8 Lw tw Vuc (2) = 1,307 kN Note there is an inconsistency in the formula when HW equals LW
as division by zero. If error occurs then this equation does not apply
Vuc = 0.17 √f'c Lw tw Vuc (3) = 1,307 kN Note if Vuc(2) < Vuc(3) then Vuc(2) = Vuc(3)
