Asociacion Hispano-Filipina
• An organization composed of Filipino
and Spaniards.
• It was established on January 12,
1889 In Madrid

OBJECTIVES
 The aim of the association is
reform the Philippines during
Spaniards colonization.
 To heard the voices of the
Filipino by Spanish.
 To get the resources of the
Filipino.

Marcelo H. del Pilar
He promoted the objectives of the paper by
contacting liberal Spaniards who would side
with the Filipino cause. Under Del Pilar, the
aims of the newspaper were expanded to
include removal of the friars and the
secularization of the parishes; active Filipino
participation in the affairs of the
government; freedom of speech.
Mariano Ponce
A Filipino physician who was a leader of the
Propaganda Movement that spurred the
Philippine Revolution against Spanish in
1896.
Tomas Arejola
Arejola headed the Asociacion Hispano-
Filipina as the editor of its sports section. He
also later helped found the Circulo Hispano-
Filipino, which succeeded the Asociacion
“Ventura felt that an organization, many of
whose members were Spaniards, would
hardly be likely to promote Filipino interests
and that, in any case, activity in Spain was
already futile; the place for propaganda was
in the Philippines.”
“Rizal seems to have more or less shared
these sentiments, and refused to accept the
invitation given him to be a member of the
Junta directive, though he had accepted the
position of honorary president of the
association “Solidaridad” of Barcelona,
which was composed only Filipinos.”
Antonio Luna- treasurer. Accepted the
position only to keep the organization from
dying before it was inaugurated, leaving its
founder, Morayta.
Del Pilar and Ponce- cooperated with
Morayta by helping to give publicity of the
association.
After inauguration; Del Pilar wrote an article
in Barcelona newspaper La Publicidad
Del Pilar saw the association as an
instrument that could be used for Filipino
goals, and he was ready to accommodate
himself to promoting such an organization.
May 1889- Ciculo Hispano- Filipino was
about to opened in Madrid. Del pilar feared
that it might be a stratagem of Father
Salvador Font, to act as procurator of the
Philippines Augustanians with the
government

collaborators of España en Pilipinas -
publisher & editor Javier Gomez de la Serna
- la Serna is anti friar, conservative in his
political views, later disassociated from
Filipino and became active Spanish politics
occupying seat in the cortes
-Rizal resentment to unfavorable
judgement to his noli was sent to Ponce

-vidal have been associated with rizal in the
filipino colony as early as 1883
-executive committee of the Asociación
Hispano-Filipina
-obtained the consent of rizal to act as a
representative of the paper.
-agreed to Rizal to work on instruction of
Filipino people, the task his newspaper
would try to contribute.
La Vanguardia Filipan
-first issued: april 27,1889
-in its first article it proposed to act as
"faithful echo of the complaints and the
legitimate aspirations of our rich provinces
inthe PH archipelago" which is lacking
parliamentry representation and forgotten
by the politician
-articles go on to proclaim its list of
reformation for PH " justice and morality for
all without exception of classes nor castes,
blotting out many differences and hatred.
-disclaiming any relation to political party.
-its intention is devoted to obtaining the PH

spanish language.
-publishing was supposed to be weekly,
however, the second number come 12days
after the first, the third come e11days later.
-it was not a surprise since Jugo confessed
to Rizal that he know next to nothing about
running a news paper.
-fortunately, Del Pilar and Ponce gave him
by letter on administrative affairs
-Jugo complained that not single filipino,
except Dominador Gomez, had ewritten
anything for the paper. Its either they
thougt press useless or they were afraid.
-2 articles signe by Taviel the Andrade, the
rest Jugo, virtually wrote entire paper by the
help of Jose Rodon y Avella
- after 3rd publication it ceased to publish
There were attempts to publish in spanish
press to publicize the need of reform to PH.
Antiono Regidor had written on PH published
in El Paris or perhaps El Liberal
Rizal on 1889 sent a letter to Antonio Luna in
Madrid to try it published in El Globo
through Morayta
Around 1889 or 1890 it began publishing in
La Correspondencia Militar in the form of
supposed letter from Ph signed by Edilberto
de Leporel
El Dia
- during 1888, early 1889 , ran a periodical
column " Gronica de Filipinas
-generally corresponding to the date of the
mail boat from the PH
-it appeared having been written by Del
Pilar's group
-campaign against friar in late 1887-1888
-published in detail the program of
Asociación Hispano-filipina, other articles
concerned in ph and section in "correo de
Filipinas" often criticism to friar, reflecting to
La Solidaridad
- Quioquiap displaying racist passion in all
its violence: "progress is white"
Modesto Reyes and Guillermo Puatu-
attempted to subsidize El Dia, but the editor
refused to protect its editorial integrity
- editor agreed that they would obtain 25
subscription and anyone can insert articles,
where there were no articles greater
importance on the condition that editor can
revise or correct if necessary
-9 filipinos collaborated on the project, but
when they failed to get support from
Madrid, they pay themselves the 25
subscription until they could get people in
Ph to share the burden
-if support will come they spend the rest of
contributions to:
*reviving old Circulo Hispano-Filipino
*subsidizing El Globo and other newspaper
-Rizal was informed by Puatu about the
plan. But it was not known whether any of
the series of articles appeared were from his
pen.
