Unit Overview

Unit Title

Ecosystem

Unit Summary

• An ecosystem consists of the biological community that occurs in some locale, and the physical and
chemical factors that make up its non-living or abiotic environment.
• The boundaries are not fixed in any objective way, although sometimes they seem obvious, as with the
shoreline of a small pond.
• Usually the boundaries of an ecosystem are chosen for practical reasons having to do with the goals of
the particular study.
• The study of ecosystems mainly consists of the study of certain processes that link the living, or biotic,
components to the non-living, or abiotic, components. Energy transformations and biogeochemical cycling
are the main processes that comprise the field of ecosystem ecology.
• Ecology generally is defined as the interactions of organisms with one another and with the environment
in which they occur

Assessment Summary

➢ Before project work begins

A discussion was arranged for the students where teacher gave the central idea about the project to be
carried out. Teacher explained the topic to the entire class. Teacher distributed questionnaire containing
general questions on the selected topic to check prior knowledge of the students related to the topic. The
class was divided into four groups and each group was given specific task to perform. Students were
given deadline of project submission.
➢ Students work on projects and complete tasks
During the project, a discussion was carried out between the group members regarding the progress of
work allotted and difficulties related to any task. Through presentation the teacher came to know about
the work progress. On this basis suggestions were given.
➢ After project work is Completed
After completion, group wise modules were collected and compiled into one entire project. A power point
presentation of whole was organized for all the students and question-answer session was done. A test
was carried out to check the knowledge and understanding. Report of the project was submitted.
