3D PIPING SPEC.

CUSTOMISATION FOR INSTRUMENT

COMPONENTS

Self Study Presentation by Girish Panse

Introduction

In any project the placing of instruments can be done in piping designer or it can
be done through Piping Spec customization of Instrument Components. The
second method is useful in cases where the Instrument Components are named
using certain specific convention base lined by Client. For eg. in EIL project the
Instruments were named based on the Size, Rating & End preparation like
CVA25RF150 where CV stands for Control Valve, A stands for Angle valve, 25
stands for Size of 1”, RF stands for Raised Face end preparation , and 150
stands for Pressure rating of 150 lbs.

Description

The customization of Instrument Components involves

1] Making the Entry of all the Instrument Components to be used in the Project in
the Table 204 of the Reference Database which is referred by the software
before placing the particular Instrument Components.
2] Making entries of the Physical Dimensions of all the components in to the
Physical Dimension tables.

Procedure

Step 1

For making the entries in Table 204 , first all the Component data is to be
entered to the Instrument. Data file delivered by Intergraph.
For each of the Component all the attributes are to be defined and entered in the
File. The 26 attributes associated along with each Component are listed below

1] system_unique_number
2] Instrument_comp_no
3] Model_code
4] Option_code
5] gcp_from_nom_dia
6] gcp_to_nom_dia
7] gcp_end_prep
8] gcp_rating
9] gcp_sch_thk
10] gcp_tab_suffix
11] rcp_from_nom_dia
12] rcp_to_nom_dia
13] rcp_end_prep
14] rcp_rating
15] rcp_sch_thk
16] rcp_tab_suffix
17] physical_data_id
18] pds_sort_code
19] Modifier
20] geometric_std
21] Weight_code
22] Fabrication_category
23]Materials_grade
24] std_note_a
25] std_note_b
26] Input_form_type

Step 2

The Next step involves loading the Data from the Instrument.Data file into the
Database . The loading is done using the Piping Job Specification manager of
the Reference Data Manager module of PDS . The procedure is as follows
Pdshell Select Project name  Reference Data Manager  Piping Job
Specification Manager  Instrument Data  Load  Enter the Node name,
Path & File Name  Accept the Form
The above Procedure fires a Batch Process which loads the data into the
Unapproved Schema of database. But it is necessary to load it to the final
Approved Schema which is accessed by the PDS software for placing the
component. Hence after the above batch is completed accept the Approved
Unapproved Button of the Piping Job specification Manager Interface which
again fires a Batch for copying the data from Unapproved to Approved Schema.

Step 3

After the Data is loaded into the database the Physical Dimensions of all the
Components & Operators have to be entered in to the Physical Dimension Tables
for the Instrument Components. The physical dimension tables required for
Instrument Components are
Inbody_Specific_PSC_MC_n  For Body of Specific Instrument Components.
Inoper_Specific_PSC_MC_n  For Operator Dimensions of Specific
Instruments.
Inbody_Typical_PSC_MC_n  For Body of Typical Instrument Components.
Inoper_Typical_PSC_MC_n  For Operator Dimensions of Typical Instruments.
So based on the PSC & MC the Physical Dimension tables are named . In these
tables entries are to be made of the physical_data_id of each component & the
dimensions to be entered against each physical_data_id. The Entries can be
made into these Physical Dimension tables through Physical Data Library
Manager of the Reference Data Manager module of the PDS. The procedure is
Pdshell Select Project name  Reference Data Manager  Physical Data
Library Manager  Select US practise  Accept  Extract  Select the
Physical Dimension Table in which Entries are to be made
After the Table is extracted to the displayed path through the Windows File
manager edit the extracted file using Notepad or Wordpad and Make the entries
of physical dimensions into the file. After all entries are made follow these steps
Physical Data Library Manager  Create /Interactive Data  Enter the
filename  Accept the Form  Unapproved ==> Unapproved .

The above Three steps complete the Procedure of Instrument Component

Specification Customization after which one can place the Instruments through
Piping Designer Module.

Conclusion

When there are large number of instruments in any project , the normal process
of placing instruments using Piping designer becomes tedious. Large number of
forms have to be filled and lot of dimensional details have to be entered. This can
be avoided by following the procedure narrated above.
