Greatest Ocean Graphs Of All Time

(G.G.O.A.T. Ocean Edition)

In this activity you will create, analyze and discuss 5 different graphs displaying data about the
oceans on our planet. Using Kid Zone Create A Graph you will create 2 bar graphs, 1 line
graph and 2 pie charts. These graphs will be drawn and put into a booklet you create entitled
the Greatest Ocean Information of All Time with analysis about what you graphed.
You will use the following website to create your graph (https://tinyurl.com/q7u798z

Requirements:
I. Graphing
1. Ocean Size Graph 1
a. Create the table below by doing the following
i. Click on Design and create bar graph make sure you choose vertical or
horizontal and rectangle for shape
ii. Under data tab- Label the x(ocean name) and y axis(Ocean size in square
km) and title the graph ocean size. You have 5 data sets to represent each
ocean
iii. Under the label tab You may choose whatever font, background color you
would like for the labels
iv. Click the Preview tab and hand Draw the graph and make an analysis based
on the information represented what kind of conclusions can you make about
the sizes of the worlds oceans. How would you rank them in regards to size

Ocean Size (sq km)

Atlantic 85133000
Arctic 15558000
Indian 70560000
Pacific 168723000
Southern 21960000
2. Sea Size (Graph 2)
a. Name graph Sea Size
b. Create the table below by doing the following
i. Click on Design and create bar graph make sure you choose vertical or horizontal
and rectangle for shape
ii. Under data tab- Label the x(sea name) and y axis(sea size in square km) and title the
graph ocean size. You have 5 data sets to represent each ocean
iii. You may choose whatever font, background color you would like for the labels
iv. Click the preview tab and Draw the graph and make an analysis based on the information
represented what kind of conclusions can you make about the sizes of the worlds oceans
also answer the following question:
How is a sea different from an ocean?
Sea Size (sq km)

Bering Sea 2261060

Mediterranean Sea 2503698
Caribbean Sea 2514878
South China Sea 2973306
Arabian Sea 3861672

3. Ocean Composition (Graph 3 Pie Chart)

a. Click the design tab and choose pie graph. You may choose whatever you like for
shading and style
b. Choose the data tab and name the graph. Choose a color and determine how many
pie slices you will need
c. Under the labels tab you may choose any design you would like for the font and size
of information on your graph
d. Click the Preview tab and draw the graph and make an analysis based on the
information presented. What kinds of information can you conclude based on your
graph.
Ocean Composition

Water (H2O) 96.53%

Dissolved Substances 3.47%

4. Ocean Salinity (Graph 3 Pie Graph)

a. Click the design tab and choose pie graph. You may choose whatever you
like for shading and style
b. Choose the data tab and name the graph. Choose a color and determine how
many pie slices you will need for your data sets based on the information in chart
c. Under the labels tab you may choose any design you would like for the font
and size of information on your graph
d. Click Preview and Draw the graph you created and make an analysis based
on the information presented.
Make sure to answer the following questions after you draw your graph
i. What is salinity?
ii. Where does salt in the ocean come from?
iii. Does cold or hot water have more salinity?
iv. Based on your graph which two elements cause the ocean to have a high
salinity?
Ocean Salinity

Chloride 55.03%
Sodium 30.59%
Sulfate 7.68%
Magnesium 3.68%
Calcium 1.18%
Potassium 1.11%
Other Substances 0.73%
5. Ocean Depth Temperature(Line Graph)

Depth (meters) Temperature

0 40
200 30
400 20
600 10
800 5
1000 0

a. Under the Design tab choose Line Graph for the type of graph
b. Click on the Data Tab for the Graph title enter a title based on the information in the
chart.
Label the x axis Ocean Depth in meters. Label the y axis Temperature.
c. For data set be sure to choose 6 and enter the information for item label and value
the item will be the depth and the value will be the temperature for each meter
d. Click on the Labels tab and you may choose any font or design you would like
e. Click on preview and draw the graph you have created.
f. Analyze the information you have graphed. What kind of conclusions can you make
about the depth of the ocean and the temperature
