Political leadership

Leadership means to lead or to be advanced or to be prominent.it is identified with the

pre-eminence.leadersship refers to the political system by giving significance to the values and

organization for attaining desired objectives. Devotion, honesty, understanding and energy are

the key leadership qualities for effectiveness of political system.poltical system must include the

understanding of present environment and looking forward to future vision and possessing an

effective communication skill for attract a large number of followers. In the developing

countries, politics more revolves around the personalities instead of principles. The political

system in developing countries could not develop due to feudal lords, industrial class and

military bureaucracy, these factors remained in power for a longer period of time.

There are different standard of each country to regulate the political leadership. Four

political leadership can arise. Colonial leadership pertains on leader of foreign power .traditional

leadership involves feudal lords. Nationalist leadership talked about own nation and

revolutionary leadership. Economic oriented leadership emphasize on economic progress. Max

weber has divided leadership in three types. Charismatic leadership comprises of extra ordinary

skills and qualities of personalities. Traditional leadership develops in society is influence by

customs and tradition and is available in the shape of monarchy. Constitutional leadership

involves the in remaining within the law of land. The persons holding the quality of leadership is

known as leader. Autocratic Leadership style is centered on the boss. In this leadership the leader

holds all authority and responsibility. In this leadership, leaders make decisions on their own

without consulting subordinates. They reach decisions, communicate them to subordinates and

expect prompt implementation. Autocratic work environment does normally have little or no

flexibility. n this leadership style, subordinates are involved in making decisions. Unlike
autocratic, this headship is centered on subordinates’ contributions. The democratic leader holds

final responsibility, but he or she is known to delegate authority to other people, who determine

work projects. The most unique feature of this leadership is that communication is active upward

and downward. Laissez-faire leaders gives authority to employees, Departments or subordinates

are allowed to work as they choose with minimal or no interference. This style has been

consistently found to be the least satisfying and least effective management style. People-

oriented leaders involves the creation of a vivid picture of its future, where it is heading and what

it will stand for. The vision inspires and provides a strong sense of purpose and direction.it is

about working with the hearts and minds of all those involved. It also recognizes that teamwork

may not always involve trusting cooperative relationships.

These charismatic leaders have a quality which is hard to pin down, but which attracts

followers and inspires people to action. There are some most prominent characteristics of

charismatic leadership. Charismatic leaders have extraordinary skills in communication.. The

leaders are equally comfortable communicating one-to-one or in a group setting. Though they

have a very powerful personality, a charismatic leader also has maturity and character. They

behave in a mature and responsible manner on all occasions. Charismatic leaders also have a

sense of humility. They place a lot of value on each employee, and have the ability to truly listen

to their concerns. They inspire great loyalty from their employees. Successful charismatic leaders

are also compassionate. Compassion, integrity, honesty, and fortitude are also qualities that

successful charismatic leaders exhibit. Charisma can exist without substance, but only for a very

short time. A charismatic leader must not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. Charm gets

him the face time, and substance closes the deal. It goes without saying that charismatic leaders

are truly confident. They are the glass half full kind of people, and are comfortable with who
they are. Charismatic leaders are secure and confident enough to be comfortable in their own

skin. One of the first things to notice about a charismatic leader is their warm, open, and positive

body language. They have an endearing swagger, and they are authentic. Charismatic leaders are

extremely good listeners. When they listen to you, they don’t fidget or look distracted. One of

the attributes of charismatic leaders is that they often tend to watch themselves. They are aware

of their powerful personality, and the fact that their followers are watching them constantly. A

charismatic leader understands that he has certain qualities that make him different from others,

and that these are the qualities that get him attention and make him charismatic.

There are few theories of leadership. The trait leadership theory believes that people are

either born or are made with certain qualities that will make them excel in leadership roles. That

is, certain qualities such as intelligence, sense of responsibility, creativity and other values puts

anyone in the shoes of a good leader. The behavioral theories are offering a new perspective, one

that focuses on the behaviors of the leaders as opposed to their mental, physical or social

characteristics. They began to concentrate on leader and followers behaviors. Situational theories

assumes the best action of the leader depends on a range of situational factors. Factors that affect

situational decisions include motivation and capability of followers. This, in turn, is affected by

factors within the particular situation. The relationship between followers and the leader may be

another factor that affects leader behavior as much as it does follower behavior. The leader’s

perception of the follower and the situation will affect what they do rather than the truth of the

situation. The leader's perception of themselves and other factors such as stress and mood will

also modify the leaders' behavior.

A political are a small group of powerful people who hold a disproportionate amount of

wealth, privilege, political power, or skill in a society. Traditional elite is based on tradition,
family or religion. Religious elites belongs to certain religious of the world. Nobility comprises

on the local leaders, land lords who have definite power of the country. The nobility is educated

class of the society. They have considerable influence in the politics throughout the world. On

the other hand landed aristocracy comprises on the land lords and have important role in the

political affairs of the country .The political elite has been criticized on several grounds such as

elite theories are opposed to modern democracy, socialism .they believed in ultimate power but

in reality this not the case. They do not provide any satisfactory alternative to the basic of social

change.
