To ooutline the required workforce competencies; skills and behaviors that
Siemens staff need to have in order to achieve their planned organizational
strategic goals from the Siemen case study.
Answer
A competency is a combination of skills knowledge, attributes and behaviors that
enable individual to perform a task or an activity successfully in a given job.
Competencies of an individual or a workforce can be measured and evaluated, and
in this regard, they are of vital important in defining job requirements and recruiting,
retaining and developing a staff.
In order for an organization or a company to achieve its planned strategic goals, it
has to adopt a competency framework describing performance excellence within the
organization.
The organization competency framework consists of three components, core values,
core competencies and functional competencies.
Core Values are principles that influence people’s actions and the choices they
make. They are ethical standards based on the code of conduct of an organization.
For Siemens to excel and flourish its mission it may adopt the standard core values
of an organization such as integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity.
Integrity is and uncompromising commitment to ethical and moral principles adopted
by and organization, while professionalism is a demonstrated competence on the
subject matter and diversity is consist of behaviors, attitudes, and practices that
enables individuals to work effectively.
