the office space precludes use of wall mounted telephones. The network
shall be a combined telephone and low voltage duct with tray separators for
separating the services.
a. The raceways for the telephone wiring shall be provided as pipe networks
which include:
b. The raceway system shall be concealed where possible and continuous from
terminal or pull box to terminal or pull box. Raceways wiring trays are
permissible in accessible areas only.
3. Surface Raceways
a. Surface raceways other than conduit shall consist of a base part, securely
fastened to the wall by woodscrews, drive anchors such as the molly type or
toggle bolts depending on the wall surface.
e. The associated hardware e.g. bushings, joints etc. shall be so designed that
no additional maintenance is required after installation.
a. The sizes of conduits, trays, etc., and terminal or junction boxes have to be
sufficient to accommodate the ultimate demand of all telecom requirements.
The design of the raceway shall be in a manner which allows for simple
wiring installation.
b. The construction of the raceway and the chosen installation material shall be
completed to allow for re-arrangements of the telecom wiring in the future.
A. A ground rod shall be driven adjacent to the chamber and extended inside by a wire
passing through a 25 mm PVC duct in the chamber wall. The rod shall be driven at a
suitable time during the backfilling around the chamber. The rod shall be positioned
along the line of the duct route, within the width set by the chamber and far enough
away to avoid the chamber foundations.
C. Where rock prevents the driving of ground rods vertically, install ground rods at an
angle or grounding electrodes in horizontal trenches to achieve the specified
resistance.
A. The installation of all marker posts and signs shall be inspected prior to acceptance
of the duct bank or cable installation.
B. Plastic warning tape shall be installed as shown in Figures 7 and 8 for all direct
buried telephone and CATV cables.
C. Plastic warning tape and concrete tiles shall be installed as shown in Figure 8 for all
direct buried telephone and CATV primary and trunk distribution cables. Buried
armored cables shall not require the installation of concrete tiles but plastic warning
tape shall be installed.
a. The marker posts and associated signs shall be located as shown in Figure
9. Duct and buried cable marker posts shall be positioned on the center line
of the duct/cable run.
a. Manhole marker posts shall be positioned 2 m from the center point of the
manhole cover and placed behind the manhole when viewed from the
adjacent road, as shown in Figure 9.
a. The instruction for locating marker post in unpaved areas shall generally be
followed with the exception that the marker posts shall be located in the
nearest unpaved surface and the distance to the telecommunications duct or
cable shall be inscribed on a plastic marker plate, dimensions 96 x 96 mm
and this plate shall be fixed to the marker post directly below the display
signs.
b. The marking shall define the direction and distance, example W-3m (West 3
m).
5. Locating Signs A to J
a. Signs shall be located and installed as above with the exception that the
CATV sign shall be placed on the adjacent face of the post (clockwise).
E. Construction
1. Care shall be taken to ensure the placement of marker post does not damage the
telecommunications or other existing utilities plant.
2. Concrete tiles shall be pre-casted and installed after a minimum period of 7 days
has lapsed after casting.
3. Marker posts shall generally be place within the 5.5 m. A duplicate of the
manhole number plate shall be attached to the manhole marker post immediately
below the marker post display sign.
A. Upon completing the installation of the system, the Contractor shall test the entire
system to insure proper working. The Contractor shall verify that the system is fully
operational and meets all the system performance requirements of this document.
Moreover, the system shall be checked to verify that all performance requirements
and standards are met. The performance requirements shall be verified using the
necessary test equipment.
D. Tests shall include, as minimum, opens, shorts, crosses, grounds and insulation
resistance.
E. The Contractor shall guarantee that all installed material and equipment will be free
from defects, workmanship and will remain so for a period of 1 year from the date of
final acceptance of the system by MARAFIQ. The Contractor shall provide
manufacturer’s equipment warranty documents certifying that all equipment installed
under this document conforms to its published specifications.
1. System test shall comply with the specification of MQ-SP-T-7804. The total
system tests shall verify that the requirements have been met for all system
signals.

3. For the purpose of final acceptance, the telephone service shall be considered
interrupted when the failure of any Contractor provided data or telephone
equipment including batteries, results in an interruption of service. This includes
a failure of more than 20% of any trunk group, 15% of any number group (15 or
more stations), operator console, or telephone service to any area determined to
be critical by the Facility Director. Response time to restore service shall have no
bearing upon the term "interrupted service."
5. At the conclusion of the Acceptance Test, the Contractor shall reschedule testing
on deficiencies and shortages, if any. When the test show the system performs in
accordance with MARAFIQ Specifications, the 30 days of uninterrupted service
provision begins. This provision must be successfully met for Contract
compliance. If any retests are needed to reach agreement on the results of the
tests or to establish compliance with these Specifications, such retesting will be
done at the Contractor's expense.
G. Cable Testing
a. The following type tests shall have been performed at the factory and test
results shall be available for review. If any of the following tests are not on
record for review, those tests shall be performed on a minimum sample of
100 units chosen at random from a production batch.
b. The transition resistance shall be measured before and after each test,
(ASTM B63). The results of the tests shall indicate on deterioration in the
quality or performance of the component.
