The machine can be braked in three ways:

 the wheel brake applies the discs (disc brakes) in the axles
 the parking brake applies the disc brake in the transmission
 the auxiliary brake (engine brake) increases the engine's resistance through increased load on fan pump P3.

If the machine is moving at 5 km/h or above, neutral gear is not activated when parking brake is applied. This is to reinforce
braking power with engine braking when the parking brake is used as a supplementary brake.
The brake system is integrated with the cooling fan system and the parking brake.

Hydraulic (passive) brake pressure charging

Brake pressure charging takes place passively with hydraulic pump P2, which has priority for the steering. When the pressure in
the working hydraulic system or steering system is higher than the pressure in the brake system, the brake accumulators are
charged passively via the shuttle valve in the central block.
If the pressure in the cooling fan circuit becomes high enough, the brake accumulators are charged passively by the cooling fan
system with hydraulic pump P3. The maximum pressure in the brake accumulator block is controlled by the pressure reducing
valve in the central valve.
Figure 3
Hydraulic (passive) brake pressure charging
Electrically controlled (active) brake pressure charging
Electrically controlled (active) brake pressure charging is provided by hydraulic pump P3.
Brake pressure charging starts when the control unit registers a pressure below the cut-in level in the brake accumulator block
from brake pressure sensor SE5201. The control unit decreases the current to the valve for cooling fan control, PWM2602, which
increases the pump's displacement. The valve for brake pressure charging, MA5503, limits the hydraulic oil flow to the fan.
When the brake pressure at SE5201 has increased to the cut-out pressure, active brake pressure charging ends and control of
the pump is returned to the cooling system. (Then the control unit permits the cooling system to take over control of the pump's
control, and the valve for brake pressure charging opens to the fan again). See Brake system, specifications.
Figure 4
Electrically controlled brake pressure charging
Braking
The axles have built-in oil cooled disc brakes which are hydraulically-controlled by the pressure from the foot brake valve. The
brake system is divided into two circuits, one front circuit and one rear circuit.
When the brake pedal is depressed, two parallel connections are opened between the accumulator block and the front and rear
axles. The output pressure is proportional to the pedal angle.
The brake piston and the thrust plate are fixed to the axle housing and do not rotate. The brake disc is located between these
two parts, and the brake disc is connected to the half shaft and rotates when the machine is moving. When the brake pedal is
pressed down, the oil pressure from the foot brake valve enters behind the brake piston, which presses the brake disc against
the thrust plate and the wheel speed is braked.
The hub is equipped with an indicator (see figure below) that is used to check brake disc wear.
When rotating, the brake disc also works as an oil pump, which throws the oil out over the surface of the brake disc and into a
pipe and the oil then flows back to the differential carrier assembly. This function circulates the oil and cools the brakes.

20. Before adjusting max. brake pressure, connect the pressure gauge to the accumulator block to get a more exact value.

21. Start the engine.

22. Then repeat the check for max. brake pressure, according to section "Max. brake pressure, checking" , but read off the
value on the pressure gauge instead of on the display.

23. Find the pressure limiting valve for max. brake pressure on the central block.

24. Loosen the lock nut.

NOTE!
The engine must be off!

25. Adjust the brake pressure on the pressure limiting valve.

Turning the adjusting screw half a turn clockwise increases the pressure by approx. 10 bar (1 MPa/145 psi).

26. Then repeat the check for max. brake pressure, according to section "Max. brake pressure, checking" , but read off the
value on the pressure gauge instead of on the display.

27. Restore the machine.

The foot brake valve is of the proportional type, which means that the output brake pressure is proportionate to the angle of the
brake pedal. The valve has two circuits, one for the front axle brakes and one for the rear axle brakes. The maximum output
brake pressure is limited. This reduced brake pressure can be adjusted on the underside of the valve by increasing or reducing
the stroke of the brake pedal.
