Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine which reading method gives better

comprehension upon 4th year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

students in St. Rita’s College of Balingasag. A standardized reading

comprehension test were used upon 15 respondents to test the effectivity of each

reading method used. Fifteen students answered the reading comprehension test

and another fifteen students answered the next day. All of them have read

different passages with questions right after, using the two reading methods.

Results were shown and was interpreted by the use of independent

samples t-test. It was found out that silent reading method outperformed oral

reading having lower scores than the silent reading and the difference was

statistically significant.

This research was recommended to those people who can benefit regarding

this field and also for future researchers to help and guide them in their way to

finishing their own research. The findings of this research have some pedagogical

implications for the learning of the students using the best reading method.

Furthermore, using the method which builds better comprehension can help

parents in using this method to teach their children prior to their formal education.
