Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
Before we start our class, may I request everybody to stand
and let us pray first.
Jenny , please lead the prayer.
(Students pray.)
2. Greetings

Good morning Grade 7! Good morning Ma’am!

Please take your seat. Thank you Ma’am!

How are you today? We’re fine Ma’am!

Class secretary, is there anyone absent today? None Ma’am! Everybody is present

Very good class! Keep It up!

It looks like you are very much excited with our lesson for
today, am I right? Yes Ma’am!

B. Motivation

Before we proceed, let us have an activity first. I will group

you into 3 groups. There are shapes stacked in your
armchair. Are you familiar with these shapes?
- circle, triangle, square.
Yes, you always use shapes in your math subject. What
shapes do we have?

That’s right! All the circle shape holder will stay together,
triangle stay together, and square stay together.
Here are the mechanics of your activity. MECHANICS:
1. Each group will be given two different
pictures and Meta cards.
2. The group will identify the differences of
the two pictures and write it on the Meta
Cards.
3. One member of the group will present
the outpu.
4. Time allotment: 5 minutes

Do you have any question about the mechanics of the

activity class? -none Ma’am!

Are you ready? Yes Ma’am!

(ACTIVITY PROPER)

GROUP 1 GROUP 2 GROUP 3

(The student will present their output)

Let us process your output class.

As you can see, we have come up with two sets of picture.

What can you say about the first set of pictures class?
The first set consists pictures of someone who is
working alone.
That’s right! How about the second set class?
The second set is the opposite of the first set
because as we can see the baby is guided by
another person in doing the activities.
Very good!

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Base from that activity class, what do you think will be our
lesson for today?
-Our lesson is all about dependent and
independent.
That’s right! In your Araling Panlipunan Subject, you were
taught about the Independence of our country from Spain.
For long years, Philippines became dependent to Spain and
they directly governed the colony.

And when do we celebrate our independence day?

Every 12th day of June Ma’am!
Very good!

In English grammar, we also have dependent and

independent, the basic types of clause.

D. Lesson Proper

A CLAUSE is a group of related words that contains a

subject and a verb.

Clause = Subject + Verb

TWO TYPES OF CLAUSE

1. INDEPENDENT CLAUSE
-expresses a complete thought
-can stand alone

2. DEPENDENT CLAUSE
-does not express a complete thought
-cannot stand alone

INDEPENDENT CLAUSE
-an independent clause is simply a complete sentence.
It does not need anything else to stand on its own.

Subject + Verb + Predicate = Complete Sentence

Example:
- We walk to the school
- They were eating lunch
- The boys won the soccer game

What is the subject in the sentence?

- We, They and Boys
How about the verb?
-Walk, were, won
Does it express a complete thought?
Yes Ma’am!
DEPENDENT CLAUSE
-A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a
subject and verb, but does not express a complete
thought.

Example:

When Jim studied in the Sweet Shop for chemistry

quiz.

What happened when Jim studied?

-we don’t know Ma’am because it is incomplete.
That’s right! Therefore, it does not express a complete
thought.

Are there any clues to a Dependent clause?

-Yes Ma’am! Look for Dependent Marker Word
Very good! of DM
What is a Dependent Marker Word?
-A Dependent Marker Word is a word added to
the beginning of an independent clause that
makes it into a dependent clause.

DEPENDENT MARKER WORD

Some common Dependent Markers are:
- after -since
-although -though
-as -unless
-as if -whatever
-because -until
-even if -when
-even though - whenever
-if - whether
-in order to - while
-that

Example:

When Jim studied in the Sweet Shop for his Chemistry

quiz

What word is the Dependent Marker in the sentence?

- when Ma’am!
Very good!
Let us have another example
-after the trash had been emptied
-because we recycle
-if you like jazz

What are the Dependent Marker in the following

sentences? - after, because, if

Very good!
Now let us try to determine the Independent and
Dependent Clause in a sentence.

1. Because he ran, he was able to catch the bus.

2. As the lights dim, I will say goodbye.
3. Wherever he might go, I will follow him
4. If the dress is on sale, she will buy it.
5. Don’t try it on unless you have the right size

What are the Independent clause in the sentence?

INDEPENDENT CLAUSE
1. He was able to catch the bus.
2. I will say goodbye.
3. I will follow him.
4. She will buy it.
5. Don’t try it on.
How about the dependent clause.
DEPENDENT CLAUSE
1. Because he ran
2. As the lights dim
3. Wherever he might go
4. If the dress is on sale
5. Unless you have the right size

Do you understand now what is Dependent and

Independent Clause class?
-Yes Ma’am!

E. Generalization

Again, when do we say a clause is independent?

-A clause is independent when it expresses a
complete thought and can stand alone.
Very good!
How about dependent clause?
-A Dependent Clause doesn’t express a complete
thought and it can’t stand alone.
That’s right!
What is the clue to a dependent clause?
The clue to a Dependent Clause is Dependent
Marker Words.
Can you give me an example of Dependent Marker?
-after
-whatever
-because
-before
Very good class! For that, give yourselves a GREAT
CLAP!

F. Application

This time, you will have another group activity. You

will stay with the same group.

I have here four envelops and inside it are different

activities that each group needs to accomplish. You
will be given 10 minutes to finish your task after
which, one member will present your output.

Did you understand class?

-Yes Ma’am!
You may now wok with your activity.

DIFFERENTIATED ACTIVITIES
Group 1 – MATCH ME!
There are two sets of clause,
Set A- Independent Clause
Set B- Dependent Clause
Match the Independent and dependent clause to
complete a sentence.

Group 2- FIND ME!

In the poem given, Highlight the dependent
clauses (Blue) and the Dependent Marker
(Red) used.

Group 3 – ACT ME!

The group will choose a song. The group will
identify the independent clause and dependent
clause used in the song. While playing the
music, clap your hands twice for independent
clause and stamp your feet for
Dependent Clause.

(Presentation of output)

G. Valuing

How did you find the activity class?

(students answer vary)
How did you manage to accomplish your task at a
given time?
Everybody participated well in the activity that’s
why we were able to finish it on time.

That’s right! (students answer vary)

Remember class that in every group activity,
cooperation is always a must. We always believe that
“two heads are better than one”. Am I right?

Yes Ma’am!
Do you have any question about our lesson class?

If that so, bring out one-half (crosswise ) sheet of None so far Ma’am!
paper and answer this.
