INTRODUCTION

Purpose of the Study

School is a place of learning, where students get most of their knowledge that gets applied to

their daily lives and use as a stepping stone to have a permanent and paying job. Schools comes

in different variations, private tutoring, online schools, learning centres, day-cares and

universities/academies. Students usually studies in the same school from preschool until they

graduate in college, but there are other students who transfer schools in reasons such as financial,

place where they live and other factors.

Students tend to study preschool and elementary on day-cares, learning centres or small

schools and once they study high school or college, they study at big universities and academies

which makes it hard for students because this is where adaptation takes place, and it depends to

the student if they will take it lightly or difficult. There are students who finds it difficult to

adjusts for there are used into having small environments which when get worse may turn in

Social Phobia, which describes as the feeling of having anxiety in social situations.

The researchers wanted to find the possible risks and effects of Social Phobia to freshmen

students who just transferred into big universities. The researches also wanted to find which

sexuality affects Social Phobia the most, the men or women.

Scope and Limitations

This study is getting conducted at Polytechnic University of the Philippines on the school

year, 2018-2019 by the Group 1. The researchers will only include the mental disorder called

Social Phobia and its effects on students in the academic perspective only. The researchers will

only get a few students per strand of Grade 11 per strand only of Polytechnic University of the

Philippines as their sample

Hypothesis

The Social Phobia in academic performances of freshmen senior high school students of

Polytechnic University of the Philippines will result to having low-esteem and end up getting

lower grades or worse, refuse to attend school.

The researchers think that both sexuality suffers from Social Phobia. It is possible that female

freshmen SHS may have a higher risk to experience Social Phobia because of their emotional

weakness, but by giving moral support and enough sympathy coming from family can help to

prevent or lessen the possibility to develop this kind of mental disorder.

As for males, most likely they’re having trouble when it comes to their emotional state, like

they can’t express their feelings or finds it difficult to express it than females, because they’re

afraid of being judged or how people thinks about them.
