What is a fact? - A fact generally refers to something that is true and can be verified as such.

That is, a fact is something that can be proven to be true.

Example of fact sentences

1. The three primary colors are red, blue and yellow.


2. The heart, lungs, liver, small intestine, and large intestine are examples of internal
organs of a human body.
3. President Duterte is currently the president of the Republic of the Philippines.

What is an opinion? - An opinion refers to a personal belief. It relates to how someone feels
about something. Others may agree or disagree with an opinion, but they cannot prove or
disprove it. This is what defines it as opinion.

Example of opinions:

1. To solve traffic, it is better to invest in subways and trains than in road widening
programs.
2. The TV shows in ABS-CBN are more entertaining than the shows of other channels.
3. It is better to live in Singapore than in Japan.

Propaganda
Propaganda is information that is used to promote or publicize a point of view or a
cause. Propaganda often has the connotation of being biased or misleading in some way-not
telling the entire truth because of the need to promote a view, cause, product, or person.
Propaganda is used in a wide variety of circumstances, but it is perhaps most recognizable in the
political realm.
Examples of Propaganda:
1. Advertisements of any kind are propaganda used to promote a product or service. For
example, an ad that promotes one brand of toothpaste over another is an example of propaganda.
2. Political signs and commercials are an example of propaganda. These promote one candidate
and his views over others in the race.
3. The government produces many kinds of propaganda. Any kind of public service
announcements about healthy living can be considered propaganda.

An analogy is a comparison in which an idea or a thing is compared to another thing that is quite
different from it. It aims at explaining that idea or thing by comparing it to something that is
familiar. Metaphors and similes are tools used to draw an analogy. Therefore, analogy is more
extensive and elaborate than either a simile or a metaphor.
Examples:

We commonly use analogy in our everyday conversation. Some common analogy examples are
given below:

 Life is like a race. The one who keeps running wins the race, and the one who stops to
catch a breath loses.
 Just as a sword is the weapon of a warrior, a pen is the weapon of a writer.
 How a doctor diagnoses diseases is like how a detective investigates crimes.
 Just as a caterpillar comes out of its cocoon, so we must come out of our comfort zone.
 You are as annoying as nails on a chalkboard

Parts of a newspaper:

 General News – This is usually the most important news in both local and abroad. These are
usually found on the front page of the paper. The title of the news is printed in big, bold
letters called “banner headline”
 Local and Foreign News Section – Contains news from towns and cities of the nation and
abroad.
 Editorial Page – This section contains articles called editorials. Editorials give views or
opinions of the editor or publisher on certain issues or events.
 Sports Page – This section contains news on events containing sports from in and out of the
country. This section also contains well-known people in the sports world.
 Classified Ads Section – Contains advertisements that fall under the categories like “Help”,
“Wanted”, “For Lease / For Sale”, and “Wanted To Buy”.
 Business and Finance Section – Contains businessmen and people interested in business
with information on banking. foreign exchange rates, imports and exports, and prices of
prime commodities.
 Entertainment Section – Contains info about movies, radio, television and other activities for
entertainment.
 Home and Culture Section – Provides info about budgeting, food preparation, house
improvement, etc.
 Society Page – Contains news about important people who are celebrating special events in
a particular place
 Travel and Tourism Section – Contains a guide to travel and directs tourists to a scenic
vacation spots and gives information on the activities in these places.
 Announcements and Obituary Page – Provides info on the activities of different religious
sections and also lists people who recently died and the time and place of their burials.
