CHAPTER 2

Methods

This chapter presents the research methods that utilizes in the study. This

includes the research design, research environment, respondents of the study, research

instrument, data gathering procedure, and data analysis

Research Design

This study will employ a phenomenological approach. The research design will

be used in dealing with Utilization of Achieving Better Learning Outcome as a

quantitative research. It will help the researcher to know the profile of respondents, how

was Achieving Better Learning Outcome implemented. The research will be using the

researcher’s made survey questionnaire and will be validated by Ms. Janice Rios. The

researchers will use phenomenological approach because it helps uncover trends in

thoughts and opinions and dive deeper into the problem. In this study, the researchers

will consider the situation of the qualities of students in achieving better learning

outcomes in Holy Cross of Agdao classes. The results will be measured in identifying

the awareness of the respondents of the Achieving Better Learning Outcome utilized by

the Teachers and Parents of Holy Cross of Agdao.

Research Environment

This study is conducted at Holy Cross of Agdao, a private Diocesan and Catholic

Transformative School located at Brgy. San Antonio, R. Castillo St., Agdao, Davao City,

Philippines. It is a secondary school which offers systematic and expansive educational

modules of learning; it additionally offers the great training and increasingly advances

facilities. The researchers chose the school, Holy Cross of Agdao to be the venue for

research survey it’s because some students in this institution doesn’t have the ability to

adapt such qualities or characteristics than can help them to improve their academic

performance and achieve better learning outcome.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of this study are the Teachers and Parents at Holy Cross of Agdao.

The respondents are both male and female, and it consists of 100 respondents in sum.

The sampling technique that the researchers used is the simple random sampling so

that the teacher and parents will have the equal chance to be chosen as one of the

respondents and to be an inclusion for this research study.

Research Instrument

The research instrument was used in this study was a survey questionnaire that

will be modified by the researchers. The survey questionnaire was composed of several

questions that will be used to determine the achieving better learning outcome of Holy

Cross of Agdao.

The first part of the questionnaire will composed of 10 item questions that will

tackle about the ratings of the qualities of the students in achieving better learning

outcome by weighing its effects based on their different academic aspects.

Next, the second part will be formulated for the 10 items test questionnaires

that will evaluate the good academic performance of the grade ten students of Holy

Cross of Agdao and to determine the specific number that is need to be developed by

the students by finding out the item number that have the most highest number of

mistakes that was recorded.

The research instrument was validated by Ms Janice Rios, research adviser of

Holy Cross of Agdao.

Data Gathering Procedure

The following are the procedures which serve as a guide for the researchers in

conducting the actual research survey.

Securing permission to the principal. The researchers requested permission first

before conducting the actual survey and was sent a letter addressed to Sr. Ma. Nelsa P.

Guevarra, TDM, the school principal, regarding with our research survey in order to get

an approval from her good office to allow us to conduct a survey within the school

campus among teacher and parents of Holy Cross of Agdao.

Gathering the respondents. The researchers were gathered all the randomly

selected respondents out from the given samples in the said research venue.

Orienting the respondents. The researchers have conducted a short orientation

among the respondents about the purpose and instructions of the research will be

conducted.

Selecting the respondents. The researchers were randomly selected all the

respondents who will be included in the survey test through simple random sampling

specifically through having draw lots.

Distributing of the survey questionnaire. The researchers were coordinated to the

teachers and parents for the actual survey and to distribute the survey questionnaire.

The instruction will be explained among the students before the test starts in order to

avoid confusion.
Analyzing the Results. The researchers will wait patiently to gather the survey

questionnaire been answered by the teachers and parents that will be subjected for

tabulation, statistical treatment, interpretation and data analysis.

Data Analysis

In data analysis, the statistical tools used by the researcher in the study are

the following: Frequency Count Percentage, Frequency Distribution and Weighted Mean

that will help the researchers to answer the series of question stated in the statement

of the research problem.

In this research, the researchers used the Likert Scale in order to analyze data

and to understand the conditions behind a specific problem. A Likert scale is a

psychometric scale commonly involved in research that employs series of

question/statement. It is the most widely used approach to scaling responses in survey

research, such that the term (or more accurately the Likert-type scale) is often used

interchangeably with rating scale, although there are other types of rating scales. The

range of the scores used in the likert scale was 4 – 1 formula; 4 point scale wherein 4

would be the highest and 1 point scale would be the lowest that corresponds with

accurate descriptions and interpretations.

Frequency Count Percentage was used in the question number one of the

statement of the research problem in profiling the respondents in terms of their gender

and ages.

Frequency Distribution was used in order to answer the question number two

of the statement of the research problem that pertains to the achieving better learning
outcome of the teacher and parents of Holy Cross of Agdao towards good academic

performance and also in order for the researchers to answer number 4 question of the

statement of the research problem.

Weighted Mean was also used by the researcher in order to examine the average

weighed effects of learning achieving better learning outcome by the teacher and

parents based on their academic aspect respectively.

The instances or situations where the Subject – Verb Agreement weighs its

effects to the students based on their academic aspect was treated through weighted

mean and was scaled as follows:
