UNGA : Protection of global climate for present and future generations of


humankind

UNGA which stands for United Nations General Assembly has been working diligently in
the way to deal with the climate change that takes the natural environment and the entire
mankind in its fold, which shall not only affect the present generation but also the coming
future generations, it has been working towards acknowledging that the global nature of
climate change calls for the widest possible cooperation by all countries and their
participation in an effective and appropriate international response, in accordance with
their common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities and their
social and economic conditions. It recognises the difference of responsibilities too with
respect to the developed and developing countries, it is determined to protect the climate
system for present and future generations.

2. UNSC : Emerging conflict between US & Iran and its Global Aftermath

United Nations Security Council established in 1945, is the most powerful body of the
United Nations with primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and
security, one of the most talked-about issues that have taken notice of the International
community at large is the conflict between the United States and Iran. What has grabbed
the eyeballs of people keeping up with the International news is that which started in
1979 with the Iranian Revolution and taking of American hostages. Killing of Iranian
General Qasem Soleimani, the retaliation by Iran, support extended by Iraq are one of
the few incidents that took place in the recent time between both these nuclear power
sufficed countries, which have recently withdrawn from 2015 nuclear accord and hence
the role of UNSC is under the scrutiny by everyone keeping an eye on the affairs
following the conflict between both the countries.

3. UNHRC : The human rights and fundamental freedoms of the people in Kashmir.

UNHRC has been closely monitoring the situation in Kashmir and has repeatedly urged
Indian Government to unlock freedom curbs in disputed Kashmir. This issue has taken a
global limelight due to several new developments in the area which incorporates
instances of abolishing the special status for the state of Jammu and Kashmir
guaranteed under Article 370 followed by putting the newly created Union Territory in a
state of indefinite curfew and internet ban.Impunity for human rights abuses has been a
long standing problem in Jammu and Kashmir . There has always been several reports
about alleged human rights violations by security forces and the new developments have
only added to the long history of human rights violations of the Kashmiris. The situation
becomes more alarming when the contemporary central government has an active role
to play in these violation starting from taking away Freedom to move freely, Freedom of
speech and expression through internet bans, restricting the right to dissent and the list
can go on. Such systemic violation has staged Kashmir’s regional issue has become a
global concern. With Kashmir being one of the top diplomatic concerns for Pakistan
whose stance is supported by China and United States of America actively trying to take
up the role of the mediator,the Kashmir issue has become an internationally recognised
dispute.

4. Lok Sabha : Citizenship Laws in India with special reference to the Citizenship
Amendment Act, 2019.

The Lok Sabha passes The Citizenship Amendment Bill on December 2018 which took
the form of the Act on December 11, 2018.The bill has amended The Citizenship Act,
1955 which requires the applicant to have resided in India for eleven of the fourteen
years. The amendment relaxes this requirement from eleven years to six years, for
HIndus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from the three nations i.e,
Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who had suffered “religious persecution” .It
grants citizenship to those who had arrived in India before 31 December
2014.Consequently, contemporary India is divided in its stance, between those who
support it and those who are opposing it. There have been several protests throughout
the length and breadth of India and many instances of police brutality has also come up
along with violence on the part of the protesters. Mainly, people are protests are against
the exclusion of Muslims, alleging it to be against the ethos of Indian Constitution.The
international community has also expressed disagreement over the non-secularism of
the Act.The centre is determined to carry on with rolling out the Act.
