LETTER TO CARTOONIST VIEW

THE EDITOR
Encouraged by Tuesday results
I am heartened by the results
from yesterday’s “Super Tues-
day” primaries - big wins across
the South for Joe Biden, not to
mention also in Minnesota and
Massachusetts. I would not have
predicted many of those wins nor
the resounding nature of Biden’s
win in South Carolina on Satur-
day, either (thank you, Senator
Clyburn). While I do agree with
some of Bernie Sanders’ positions
in general, he is obviously a bit
extreme in his positions. Nor am
I the only one to have sensed a
“meanness” in some of Sanders’s
supporters. I don’t think we need
to find a new way to become more
divided than we already are.
Nor is Sanders the only one
who can push for action on critical
issues like climate change and
health care - and Biden will
hopefully do so without the draco-
nian hit to the national debt that
Sanders’ policies would require
whether he admits it or not.
Most immediately, though, my
hope is that a Biden presidency
would pull us back together a
bit - help us focus more on how
we can work together to make
meaningful progress that benefits
the most people. Joe, like me and CAMPAIGN 2020
everyone else, is not perfect. Yes,
I wish he was younger. But, as
Senator Clyburn said, in effect, he
