ISSN REFLECTION

This year was the first year I had actually tried out for the girls soccer team from the

school. I had always played soccer but outside leagues. I wanted to give it a try if I actually

would make it to the team and I ended up playing for the junior soccer team. It was the most

amazing experience I have ever had during my four year of highschool. In reality I just want to

be on the team and had fun being my last year of highschool but I never thought that I was going

to be the Jv captain. Being the Jv captain has so many responsibilities because your team looks

up to you which is really hard to do.I was really scared to become the captain. I had no type of

express or didn’t know the roll of what a captain does for the team. One of the goals of being the

Jv captain is to have fun while playing in the field but one thing that I consider really important

is to play as a team.

One reason why I tried out soccer was to have fun being the last year of highschool but to

make memories with girls from the other two schools. A while back I always wanted to be tired

out for the team but I decided to put my education first and for my last year of highschool was

going to tryout soccer. Soccer had pushed me to try harder to not get a grade cut because for me

soccer is where I get distracted leaving all in the field and I waited all this year just to try out for

the soccer team. After my coach selected me to be the Jv captain I was really shocked that I was

going to be captain. The goal that I had set myself as a captain was successful because we the

girls from Jv played like a team but more as a family everytime we didn’t like what other girls

were doing we discussed the problem to fix it or improve ourselves. I was really an open person

and took the advice others tell me to improve myself as well.

I learned that captain is not an easy role and that your teammates count on you no matter

what happens in the soccer field. I also learned that I was more confident about myself that I

would be able to motivate my teammates when we will lose but no matter if we lose or win.

Something that I have learned from myself that I was really open minded on the advice people

will tell me to improve leading a team.Something that I did very well was be able to

communicate with my teammates and was able to achieve my goal of being the captain of the

team. Something that I have done differently was when girls would blame one another for

committing the minor mistakes. I am proud that I had tried something new this year and was able

to be successful by helping my teammates.

I communicated ideas with my teammates by talking to them when there was an area that

we needed to improve. For example, after we finish playing a game we gather around to talk

about the game on what areas we need to practice more or what we did very well. I recognized

and weighed my perspective that being a captain is not really easy compared to the soccer games

from the tv. It takes a lot of work and effort being the the Jv captain not only it taught me alot but

to experience new things.
