C. Significance of the Study

The researchers hope that the result of this study will help other people especially

the students to understand the possible effects of using gadgets in their daily lives. The

information will guide the students to use their gadgets appropriately. Understanding the

possible effects of using gadgets can help the students to control themselves in abusing

their gadgets in terms of different purposes.

D. Scope and Limitation

This research, which dealt with the effects of using gadgets towards the education

of the students, was not designed to give and suggest the possible solutions for the effects

of using gadgets in study of the students. The researchers limit themselves to what their

respondents or participants know and understand regarding the issue.

3. Embed – to place or set (something) firmly in something else

4. Irritable – becoming angry or annoyed easily

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Billions of people including children, today use mobile phone many hours a day

in front of the screen such as computer has become a common practice. However, we

often forget that excessive use of electronic gadgets has a negative effect on our health.

Gadgets such as iPods and headphones can make the eardrum become less

sensitive to sound and might even loss the ability of ears to hear sounds. Continuous use

of mobile phones for text messaging or playing games will lead to pain in fingers. This

will weaken the nerves of all fingers and make them stiff not allowing the fingers to

move easily. There are lots of other gadgets causing damage to human body. However, if

the gadgets will be used in a constructive way then it can be a good tool or thing to be

appreciated.

The survey conducted by Kaiser Family Foundation showed that kids today are

easily used up more than 50 hours weekly, which means that the time consumed is more

than working hours of an adult.

If the children spend too much time on the devices, this may affect their studies

and school achievements. The more time they spend they are crazier after the devices

affect their concentration and focus in their school works.

Roberts (2015) states that children and teenagers spend an average of four hours a

day just on television time, add in computer time, time spent on the internet or
smartphone, and video game playing, and it’s easy to see how teens can spend a

significant chunk of their waking time plugged in electronics while useful for

communication, school works and entertainment, can cause problems if they’re overuse.

Nowadays, we can easily found children as young as two years old are playing

with an electronic devices and gadgets anywhere that is not only the video games that

make the children stay is also includes television, mobile phones and smartphone

application, computers, tablet computers, PSP games and etc. children tend to be active

consumers, may electronic products and gadget’s commercial have been targeted to

young children market. Parent may find it easier to make their children stay in one place

by giving them a gadget to play with.

According to DR. Morgan Gerard (2013), gadgets are culturally constructed,

socially constituted and historically contingent. Because technology is embedded in all

human activity, gadget is the product of us and our place, time and zeitgeist.

Gadgets changes the way of learning in the classroom. Students are no longer

bound, physically, by the bricks and mortar that surround them. Instead, they have at their

fingertips the opportunity to explore the world and take in vast amounts of information

along the way. We are only just beginning to realize the potential of the gadgets in

helping to improve student’s learning and increase their academic performance.

It is easy to become addicted to gaming, texting, talking on the phone or

socializing online. Some students may attempt to do this in class, which disrupts their

learning, and at home destructs from study time. Kids putting in long hours on their

gadgets will give less attention to assignments and may be irritable when they are away
from their gadgets. They might also sleep less, which can slowdown their thinking the

next day.

One study claims that there exist evidence that internet-time is harming children’s

academic performance. This study was done by economist at the University of Munich

named Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Weismann who surveyed the students in 31 countries.

They crested a very thorough, detailed survey in order to eliminate other possible causes

of the downward trend of academic performance. They state in their results that the

“sheer ubiquity of information technology is getting in the way of learning”.

The gadgets are very useful in lives of the people. It helps to simplify their works.

However, it has its bad effects according to its usage.
