1. Introduction
This calculation is for the structural analysis and design of Bagging Electrical Room for Cemex Cement Plant.
2. Design criteria
The following cover the design criteria used for the analysis and design of the Bagging Electrical Room. The
criteria used are in accordance with Owner Specification as well as the accepted Codes and Standard practises
in Philippines.
2.1 Materials
Steel Reinforcement 16mm diameter and above Yield Strength, fy = 4200 kg/cm2 (60 ksi) Yield
12mm diameter and below Strength, fy = 2800 kg/cm2 (40 ksi)
Unless indicated, otherwise, the minimum cover for reinforced concrete structures shall be:
In no case shall the clear distance be less than 25 mm or less than 1 1/3 times the maximum size of aggregate,
whichever is greater.

Dead loads are the weights of the structures and any permanent equipment and appurtenant
structures that do not change with the mode of operation. Dead loads shall include the following:
1. Self-weight of the structure.
2. Weight of permanent machineries and equipment’s shall be based on the vendor’s drawing
and load data.
Superimposed dead loads (SIDL) are the weight of all permanently materials such as cladding,
roofing, etc.
2.2.3 Live Loads ( LL )
The live loads on the limestone crusher shall be based on the following
Live load on concrete deck : 100 kg/m2
Live load in steel roof (slope > 5%) : 60 kg/m2
Live load in floor slab : 500 kg/m2
Live load in stairways : 250 kg/m2
2.2.4 Seismic Load
Inertia force by seismic shall be designed according to the Static Lateral Force procedure in NSCP 2015 Vo. 1

Wind load shall be designed according to the Directional Procedure for Main Wind-Force Resisting Systems
(MWFRS), as stated in NSCP 2015 Vol. 1 Section 207B.

The analysis of the structure shall be carried out in Staad with an idealised 3D model. The design shall
be as per NSCP 2015 Vol. 1.
2.3.1 Codes and Standards
For the design and the execution of the works as well as for the quality of the selected materials in the
performance of the works, applicable codes and standards shall be followed.

2.3.2 Load Combination
Load Combinations using Strength Design or Load and Resistance Factor Design:
Where load and resistance factor design is used, structures and all portions thereof shall resist the
most critical effects from the following combinations of factored loads:
1.4(D + F)
1.2(D+ F+T)+1.6(L+H)+0.5(Lr or R)
1.2D+1.6(Lr or R)+( f1L or 0.5W)
1.2D+1.0W+f1L+0.5(Lr or R)
1.2D+1.0E+f1L

Where allowable stress design (working stress design) is used, structures and all portions thereof shall
resist the most critical effects resulting from the following combinations of loads:

In lieu of the basic load combinations, structures and portions thereof shall resist the most critical
effects from the following combinations of loads:

0.6D+E/1.4+H
D+L+(Lr or R)
D+L+0.6W
D+L+E/1.4
Note: One-third increase in allowable stresses for all combinations including wind or seismic is
permitted.
For both allowable stress design and strength design, the following special load combinations for
seismic design shall be used:
1.2D+f1L+1.0Em
0.9D±1.0Em
where:
f1 = 1.0 for floors in places of public assembly, for live loads in excess of 4.8 kPa, and for garage live
load = 0.5 for other live loads
Em = The maximum effect of horizontal and vertical forces
2.3.3 Design of Structural Members
Design of structural member will be carried out in Ultimate Limit State and Serviceability Limit State,
with the help of Excel spread sheets in tabular form with proper validation of the design.
2.3.3.1 Factor of Safety
All structures which are subjected to overturning and sliding shall be designed based on the following
requirements:
Overturning Safety Factor = 1.5
Sliding Safety Factor = 1.5

Calculated storey drift using ΔM due to seismic effect shall not exceed as follows (NSCP section
208.6.5)
0.025 times the storey height - for structures having a fundamental period less than 0.7 sec.
0.020 times the storey height - for structures having a fundamental period of 0.7 sec. or more
Drift limits from the wind load effect for building design shall be 1/600 to 1/400 of the building height or
storey height (ASCE 7-16 Appendix CC.2.2).
2.4.1.2 Deflection Limits
