FOOTING

- is the underground position of the foundation.

Kinds of footing:

Tools & instrument used in laying out wall footing:

1. transit – a survey instrument used to measure distance & angles.
– is used to lay out the exact position of the excavation line, footer line & foundation wall
line.
2. Pull push rule – is used to measure the exact position of the excavation line, footer line &
foundation wall line.
3. String & batter board – are the used to give the exact position of the excavation line, footer line &
foundation wall line.

MATERIALS FOR WALL FOOTING:

1. Concrete
- is commonly used for footing because it can be poured to maintain a firm contact with the
supporting soil.
- Is also effective because it can withstand heavy weights and is decay- proof.

2. Steel reinforcement
- Is added to the concrete footing to keep the concrete from cracking & to provide additional
strength.
- as a reinforcement is a requirement for all types of concrete & masonry work as provided
by the Philippine building code.
