Biodiversity?
Natural resources play a major role in the for the life on this planet. Natural
resources form the basis of everything that are needed for our survival. They are
very important for the sustainability and the survival of this planet. Even though
we know that they are needed for our survival we keep wasting natural resources.
Farming, freshwater and forest materials are sustainable, so recovery is not
surpassed by the production. Non-renewable fossil fuels and metal ores. While
many overexploitation effects are sensed locally, the expanding interdependence
of nations and international natural resource trade make their demand and
environmental management a global issue.
Biodiversity is the sum of life on Earth that is different. It is the number of plants,
animals and micro-organisms in different species. This contains vastly different
environments from Earth's humans, including deserts, rainforests, coral reefs,
grasslands, tundra, and polar ice caps. The ecosystem is of great importance for
the planet's sustainability. Many civilizations also recognized the importance of
protecting the natural resources, at least at some point. Majority of the people
still do it.
Population growth and increased consumption of natural resources are the root
causes of biodiversity loss. The population of the world has tripled in the 20th
century and estimates indicate that rise is projected to accelerate for the next 50
years. At the present rate, the natural resources of the Planet are being drained
excessively. According to the Ecological Footprint and many other reports,
human use of renewable resources has exceeded Earth's ability to regenerate
renewable resources. The predicted doubling of world population over the next
50 years would intensify these pressures. Extensive usage of natural resources is
destroying the eco-system. By exploiting our natural resources, we are also
decreasing trade for the countries. The costs of natural resources will shoot high,
due to their rare presence and endangering. If the costs for natural resources
increase, then the quality of life of a common man gets affected as not everyone
can afford it. The exploitation of natural resources destroys and endangers
various species and life forms. Many animals depend on natural resources, and by
exploiting it and using it only for us, kills the other organisms living in the planet.
People who rely on the natural resources their ecosystem offers have a clear
interest in maintaining the quality of those services. Often, local communities see
little gain from those services but are left to pay the expense of their inefficient
use. The inequities between rich and poor, men and women, and among social
classes can be seen in who controls wealth versus who gets their benefits.
This is how the exploitation of natural resources are affecting our planets
biodiversity. We need to take care of our natural resources and use them
sustainably, to help us and the future generations live in and experience a
beautiful planet.
