STEP 5: INSTALLING THE PULL CABLE AND HAND PILLOW

INSTALLING THE PULL CABLE

Locate on Front Vest Panel the Retention Pocket for the loop handle on pull cord. NOTE: It is on the back side, cen-
ter and bottom of the Front Vest Panel.

Feed the end of the pull cable wire through the grommet hole located on your left side of the retention pocket.

Feed cable up through inside of vest. Secure loop pull handle for cable into retention pocket.

INSTALLING THE HAND PILLOW (optional)

Locate the Stow Pocket for pull cord chest pillow. NOTE: User is to place pull pillow on NON FIRING side, if user desires
no SECONDARY method of release activation then do not install pull pillow.

Feed cable out through grommet above retention pocket for pull cord chest pillow and slide para cord loop on
chest pull pillow over cable.

Secure chest pull pillow into chest retention pocket NOTE: User determines how much of pillow he wants to expose by
pushing pillow into pocket and leaving the amount he wants available to grip.

STEP 5: INSTALLING THE PULL CABLE AND HAND PILLOW (cont.)

Feed end of cable wire into channel above chest pull pillow retention pocket and pull through.

Feed cable wire into slot at bottom outside of shoulder strap. NOTE: This slot can be found by locating box X stitch at
start of shoulder strap and moving over to the outside edge of it. Continue to feed cable through this slot and up into
the channel on the top of the shoulder strap ending with grommets.

Pull the cable wire completely through and feed it through the White Dacron Cord Loop that is exposed through
the grommets. Take the cable wire and secure its end in the bottom grommet on the edge of the Back Vest Panel
Access Panel.

NOTE: At this point be sure to remove Para Cord that you have been using to feed the White Dacron Cord through the
grommets. FAILURE TO DO THIS CAN DISABLE THE VEST RELEASE!!!

Secure flap over Back Vest Panel Access and secure all Velcro closures.

PAGE 7
STEP 6: INSTALLING THE SHOULDER PADS

Locate the Shoulder Pads, if pads

are desired secure around exposed
vest straps positioning for comfort.

Ensure that opening edge of shoul-

der pad securing flap is AWAY from
users neck so that only smooth
side is exposed to skin.

Ensure that shoulder pads do not

“bridge” the front and back vest
panels and make release difficult.

Tuck back edge of pads into back

vest panel shoulder strap channel.

Modular Supplemental Armor

Protection Side Plates Left and Right
(MSAP)
Hard Armor Ballistic Insert Front and Back

PAGE 9
STEP 1: INSERT SOFT ARMOR

Ensure the placement of the Soft Armor Panel’s Label is against your body.

The Soft Armor Panel should be smooth and flat in all corners of the UAV. Note: Ensure the Pull Cable Wire is routed
on top of the soft armor panel and not between it and your body.

Close and smooth flat the Velcro closure. Repeat procedure for other Vest Panel.

PAGE 10
STEP 2: INSERT ARMOR PLATES

Ensure the placement of the Ballistic Upgrade Plate’s Label is against your body.

Locate the Vest Front or Back Plate Pocket (it is the outermost inside pocket under the vest’s MOLLE pocket at-
tachment field.) Reach inside and secure the Plate Retention Strap. Slide the plate into the pocket with the strap
on top of the plate.

Locate the buckle inside the pocket at the bottom edge of the plate, feed the strap through the buckle and fasten
the pull-the-dot snap into place. Repeat this procedure for the other half of the vest.

NOTE: Plate retention on the UAV is designed to instantly drain water, be minimal in bulk to the overall vest design and
allow the Operator to quickly and easily remove or change out his plates based on mission requirements. The UAV
retention system has been extensively tested on live-fire maneuver courses, obstacle courses and Urban Environments
Simulators to retain the plate under high individual mobility situations.

PAGE 11
DONNING THE UAV VEST

Place head through neck hole and let vest hang from shoulders. Lift and hold up or position with Velcro front flap.
Place 2 inch side release female ends of internal cummerbund on left and right of front flap Velcro Pile field at
center height and so that side release buckles are NOT covered by front flap. Secure in place inner cummerbund 2
inch side release buckle, pull back on tails until secure and snug.
NOTE: UAV is designed to be worn tight.

Secure external cummerbund in place on front flap Velcro Pile field. Bring retention straps with snaps up onto the
front flap Velcro Pile field. Close front flap aligning retention strap male end of snaps with female ends of snaps on
edge of flap. Ensure that minimal amount of Velcro pile is visible on cummerbund once flap is closed.

KEY POINTS ON SIZING ADJUSTMENTS:

• It may be necessary to adjust the UAV from this point to achieve a perfect fit.
• Utilize the grommets in the back at the release point to the desired effect.
• Ensure the position of the top of the front plate rests at the top of the Operators breast bone and that the posi-
tion of the top of the back plate rest on bottom of his back neck.
• It may be necessary to decrease the size of the White Dacron Cord Loop on shorter individuals to achieve the proper
position of the shoulder straps with respect to the Operators height.
• The UAV utilizes a wide spectrum of fitting sizes in order to maximize Operators mobility.
• Ultimately the Operator must decide between coverage and dismounted mobility when selecting the size armor
he will employ.

UAV VEST FEATURES

CABLE LOOP PULL HANDLE

This handle is designed to be hooked by a thumb when wearing fast
rope or other heavy gloves. It can be secured out of the way inside
the Velcro closure that secures the soft armor inserts by utilizing
the Velcro tab at the bottom of the loop. This securing feature is
particularly useful around concrete breaches to prevent Accidental
Discharge of the release by rebar or other impediments.

SECONDARY PULL PILLOW CHEST RELEASE

This feature allows a secondary release option in case the Operator
cannot access the Cable Loop Pull Handle or is more familiar with
HALO style cut-ways. It is optional and if not desired does not need to
be installed or simply push the entire pillow into the retention pocket
leaving none of it exposed.

DRAG HANDLE
Allows a means of securing an injured Operator or guiding someone
wearing the UAV from the rear can also be used for transporting the
vest when not wearing it.

PAGE 13
INTEGRATED DUMP/EXPLOITATION BAG
This feature gives the Operator an immediately deployed left, right or
both sides storage bag that stays stowed in position out of the way
until required. The bag can be pulled down out of its stowed posi-
tion by a length of exposed parachute cord or by leaving the D ring
exposed. The bag is held in place by Velcro and can be left off when
not required. The bag(s) have grommets for drainage, and a cinch
cord for security. Simply fold flap and stuff away for storage.

PAGE 14
INTEGRATED SIDE POCKET AND RETENTION CORD
This feature allows the Operator to emplace a magazine for speed
reload or secondary/tertiary weapon etc. A bungee cord with quick
tab is held in place with Velcro and can be removed if not required.
Additional Velcro pile is placed inside of both walls of the pocket to
secure holsters, sheaths etc. more securely.

PLATE CARRIER CONFIGURATION

Due in part to the materials and also in part to the
design the UAV can be utilized as a basic plate carrier.
When worn over the SPEAR BALCS Low Visibility Body
Armor Vest and with the Soft Armor Inserts removed
the Operator can fold back behind the vest the front
side plate holder pockets and remove the external
cummerbund allowing a more streamlined effect.
If stand-alone plates are utilized enhanced cooling
through ventilation is achieved. Additionally the ex-
ternal cummerbund has sleeves down the inside that
accommodate the new MSAP Soft Armor Inserts.

NOTE:
For attachment of Modular Supplemental Armor Protection (MSAP),
SPEAR BALCS Collar and SPEAR BALCS Groin Protection please see the
attached MSAP Visual User Guide (VUG).
