Atypical Antipsychotics and Aberrant Salience

General Discussion

Is there anything known to regulate salience in individuals experiencing psychosis? To my knowledge,

atypical antipsychotic medications block dopamine receptors and can be linked to long term
damage/vast side effects. By no means an expert, just exploring solutions. Any and all input is
appreciated. Cheers.

 Hallucinogen induced states (ex. LSD) is also counted as aberrant salience. You can get clues
from here.

LSD mediates its effect via physically blocking serotonin receptors throughout the brain for
long periods of time, resulting in constant activation.

That’s very interesting! I hadn’t thought about LSD as a form of induced aberrant salience. It

feels like every treatment is so black and white pertaining to dopamine. I just cant accept
there isn’t a method to balance the flow instead of cut it off.
