APC Rack Equipment installation guidelines

TIP HAZZARD
• Make sure you have secured the rack to the floor before installing
equipment.

• Install the heaviest equipment first toward the bottom of the rack to prevent
the enclosure from becoming top-heavy.

• Do not extend equipment on sliding rails until you have installed the stabilizer
plate or until you have installed 158kg (350 lbs) of equipment into the bottom
area of the rack for stability. Do not extend more than one piece of
equipment on a sliding rail at one time.

RACK MOUNTING RAILS information

• Review the equipment manufacturer’s installation instructions.

• Locate the top and bottom U-space on the vertical mounting rails. Every
third hole on the mounting rails is numbered to indicate the middle of a U-
space.

• Install the cage nuts on the interior of the vertical mounting rail, and then

HP DL380 Server and Rail Assembly overview

1. Un-box the HP DL380 server. Gather all installation hardware and documentation.
• IMPORTANT: The server rail assemblies located inside the server box are not used
for this installation. Modified rail assemblies are required for this installation and
shipped in a separate box. The modified rail assemblies are adaptable in any rack
with square mounting holes or threaded mounting holes.

Modified Rail Assembly part number:

RackSolutions 122-2866 DL380e Rail Kit – Part Number D5Q88A

IMPORTANT: The HP Load DVD-Solaris10 OS load mediaDVD is shipped with the

server documentation. DO NOT discard this DVD or remove this DVD from the site! The

2. Locate and unbox the modified HP server rail assemblies. The box containing the
modified rail assemblies are shipped separately and labeled as ‘RackSolutions 122-
2866 DL380e Rail Kit – Part Number D5Q88A’.

3. Use the illustrations and instructions on pages 14-18 to correctly assemble and install the
HP server into a rack with the modified rail assemblies. Please read the following notes
before beginning the rail assembly.

HP modified rail assembly information and installation notes:

• The modified rail assemblies are labeled ‘L-left’ and ‘R-right’ and must be
attached to the server in that manner (viewing the server from the front). The
‘left’ and ‘right’ assemblies are NOT interchangeable.

• The inner rail of each assembly must be separated from the outer assembly and
attached to the server. The inner rail has keyhole type slots that align to
mounting lugs (pegs) on the server chassis. When the inner rail is aligned to the
lugs (pegs) it allows for the rail to be slightly pushed to the front of the chassis
and lock into position.

• The outer assembly is mounted to the designated ‘U’ location in the rack.
– single server (U26/U27)
– dual server (U23/24 and U26/U27)

• The server with the inner rails attached can now be aligned with the outer rail
assemblies, inserted together, and pushed back into the rack. The rail assembly
should lock as you push the server into place.
