1. To estimate total bdft. Of purlins: make an actual counting of the purlins shown in the roof
plan or truss and rafter details. Compute the bdft. According to size and length.
2. Or compute the area in sq.m. then multiply: Area x 3.271 for 2 x 3, Area x 4.309 for 2 x 4,
Area x 5.321 for 2 x 5, and Area x 6.335 for 2 x 6 lumber.
3. For Cleats: Area x 3.44 2 x 3, 4.571 for 2 x 4, 5.458 for 2 x 5 and 6.50 for 2 x 6.

ROOFING

1. To estimate roofing by area: solve the total area in flat then add the pitch factor (sum of 1
and 2 percentage), the total is the slotted area of the roof.
2. Divide the slotted area by factor from the table of G.I. Sht. Coverage.

PITCH FACTOR OF TRUSS & RAFTER

No. 1 Symmetrical No. 2 Unsymmetrical

3. Another procedure in estimating roofing: Length of spread divide by 0.67 or 27” then
multiply by no. of lapping or row.
4. To obtain metal rivet: Pieces of G.I. sht. x .146 = kilo of rivet. For washers Pieces of G.I.
sht. x .146 = kilo of washer. For strap: pieces of G.I. Sht. x 12 or 9 = pcs. Of strap. To
convert this to plain G.I. sht. See table of strap.
5. To obtain gutter, ridge roll, valley roll, flashing: Divide the total run or spread by factor:
2.10 for ridge & valley roll and flashing. 2.25 for gutter & valley roll and flashing. 2.25 for
gutter & downspout. For copper rivet; no. of pcs. Of joint multiply by 8 pcs. Then divide
by 50 = No. of box, If in kilo: No. of pcs. Divide by 160 kilos.
6. For nikolite: No. of joint x ¼ or 4 or length in foot divide by 24 will give you kilos.
7. For muriatic acid: Pcs. Of nikolite x 10 cc = total cc of muriatic.
