Students will: Acquire attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to

Students will: Develop and revise a time management plan.

Handout 1: Daily Schedule (one copy per students)

Procedure: Describe how you will:

Introduce: Provide an overview of the lesson plan and begin with an


icebreaker so everyone feels comfortable.
Communicate Today we will begin by learning about time management and
Lesson Objective: how it impacts us in various areas in our lives.We will discuss
the benefits of time management such as organizing,
prioritizing and coordinating tasks.
Teach Content: Discussion: Give example of have to, want to, need to and
explain. Could these change for you in the future? Explain. Why
do we put off the “have to” list sometimes? Can this cause a
problem? Is there a way to do a better job with our “have to”
list? What do have to and want to have to do with reaching
your goals? Can you think of an example? Explain. It is possible
to spend too much time on have to or want to? Explain.
Practice Content: In small groups, they will complete their second worksheet
(Have to, Want to, Goals) Group speakers take turns sharing
key points. After each presentation, counselor will add
comments and answer any necessary questions.

Summarize: Students will complete their personal daily schedules while


counselor walks around the room looking at student work to
check for understanding. As a whole, students will answer if
they see where they use most of their time and if there are any
surprises. Followed with a second worksheet and a wrap up
discussion.
Close: Provide a summary of the lesson.

This lesson focusses on developing a time management plan by creating a daily
schedule and evaluating what they have to do and when they want to do it.
Students will investigate the value of having a time management plan. They will
learn that effective time management will help them achieve their goals. Having
students understand that being in class and on time can impact their ability to
obtain higher test scores.
