Chapter III

Methods of Research

This chapter presents the methods of research that were utilized in the collection,

analysis, and interpretation of the data related to the study, specifically, it includes

methods and techniques of the study, population and sample of the study, research

instruments, construction and validation of the instruments, data gathering procedures

and data processing and statistical treatment.

Methods and Techniques of the Research

The describe methods of research is being used in the conduct of the study to

determine the professional readiness and employability status of MAPEH graduates in

Bataan Peninsula State University.

Descriptive research involves “Collection of data in order to test the hypothesis or

to answer questions concerning the current status of the subject of the study” (Gay 2000).

The survey methods id being used in the collection of data “A survey is an attempt to

collect data from members of population in order to determine the current status of that

population with respect to one or more variables” (Gay, 2000).

Therefore, through this method one can identify the relationship of variables from

one another as they affect a certain scale of phenomenon.

In line with this, the researcher conducted proficiency test using a standardized

test to the MAPEH graduates of Bataan Peninsula State University by which, the said

question will respond to the answer of the problem of this study.

Population and Sample of the Study

To determine the sample size of the MAPEH graduates, the researcher consider

the population of MAPEH students in Bataan Peninsula State University AY 2014-2016.

The selection of the respondents has used Simple Random Sample. The researcher

used the lottery method which was under in Simple Random Sample.

Table 1 shows the number of graduates of BSEd major in MAPEH from

SY.2013-2014 and the actual number of respondents for each year the table shows that

there’s a total of sixty eight (68) graduates of BSed MAPEH major within the stated

period of time. Fifty eight (58) out of sixty eight (68) the graduates will be the

respondents of the study.

Research Instruments

The researcher used a standardized questionnaire. For the legality researcher sent

a formal letter to Miss Rose Ann P. Bihag, asking a permission to use her questionnaire

for this study.

The main instrument in the collection of data needed was the questionnaire

checklist. The respondents were requested to give their answers by checking the

appropriate space corresponds to their choices.

The questionnaire consists of two (2) parts. Part I is composed of questions about

the employment Status of MAPEH graduates and the Part II is composed of question

about the Professional Readiness of MAPEH graduates.

Construction and Validation of the Instruments

The researcher read journals, articles, books both published and unpublished hat

are relevant in answering the research questions of the study. The study will utilize a

standardized questionnaire which will elicit the needed information and data for the

study.

Data Gathering Procedure

For the purpose of acquiring data from the MAPEH graduates, a formal letter will

be sent to the campus registrar for requesting a copy of the list of MAPEH graduates,

then the researcher will also sent a letter to the school and establishment where the

MAPEH graduates is working, requesting a permission to administer the research

instruments. In addition the researcher personally administered the instruments in order

to ensure a high retrieval rate from the respondents. Moreover, the researcher personally

conducted the listening test.

The MAPEH graduates to be involved in the study will be notified regarding the

purpose of the study. They will be guided according for an effective and efficient

accomplishment of the survey questionnaire. At the same time, they will be assured of the

confidentiality for their responses.

Right after the questionnaire were answered and collected from the MAPEH

graduates, data were tabulated, analyzed, and presented for the realization of the purpose

of this investigation.

Data Processing and Statistical Treatment

The pertinent collected data that have been treated with most fitted statistical tool or

treatment in order to unlock the problem involved in this study. This information have

been tabulated, analysed, interpreted, and presented through the following statistical

tools:

1. Standard survey questionnaire will be utilized to measure quantitatively the

Professional Readiness and Employability Status of MAPEH graduates.

2. Percentage

To describe the Employability Status of MAPEH graduates.

42

Formula:

P=F/Nx100

Where:

P- Percentage (%)

F- Frequency

N- Total Number of Population

3. The process of finding the “Weighted Mean Average” which is referred to as the

central tendency was used, the formula is given below:

Formula:

wma = x1w2 + x2w2 + x3w3… xnwn

Where: x = weighted mean

w = weighted factor

n = total number of respondents

4. Pearson product- moment correlation coefficient

To determine the relationship between the two variable of the study.
